Not really 4b tech, but camping tech...

What do people do to store their camping gear at home, so you dont get 2930234234 spiders into them and water leaks etc?

Also to keep damp and crap out?? Boxes? Garbo bags?

I have the garden shed style event happening, and wanna make sure my gear is safe, dry and lovely.

I just have them in the shed. it is on a concrete slab and is pretty well ventilated. The stuff is either stored in the tubs that go into the car or on shelves. I generally leave the tent loosely unrolled on a shelf to let some sort of ventilation happen on it. Never had a problem with spiders as we don't seem to get them around our house for some reason.

Things like sleeping bags are kept in the house

the good stuff i keep inside in a kinchrome tool chest that isnt used for under the house (our shed). i keep it in a corner with metal stuff on the bottom soft stuff like foam mattress ontop of that. few mouse traps round it. every 4-5 months spray round the ground and wall with a inceticide. we only do this because in our basement type set up we get a lot of creepy crawlies comming in from the weather. hope this has helped.

We have a camper trailer and every thing stays in there but our tents and stuff are in our shed and because there in zip up bags are alright and the other things are just folded!

Did you really sit there and count 2930234234 spiders from your camping gear?

Bedding inside.


Everything else in large watertight plastic storage boxes. Pack it away right in the boxes and it is ready for the next trip.... load and go.

if you want it free of damp, get a tub of damprid. great stuff.

and it is a "house of death" for all insects, no flying insects, no crawling bugs, no spiders, no spider webs!

Swags stored in swagbags and seriously tightly tied shut at the top.
Tent also tightly tied shut in it's bag.
Both stored in garage on concrete flooring.

Sleeping bags NOT already in the swags are stored in the house.

Other metal stuff is kept loose and open on bookshelves in garage where firstly we don't seem to get spiders, and secondly where it can easily be checked for them as it's packed, just in case.

Will soon have to get the house sprayed though, as with the drought conditions the ants have discovered they can get water from our kettle.
They leave the sugar bowl untouched, and they ignore the cupboard full of food, but they regularly invade - and unfortunately commit suicide in - our kettle. Go figure?
Glad it's a fully glass bowl type kettle, so usually see the black specks in it before making the coffee/tea.

We keep all our gear under the stairs in a storage area, although last year we gotted flooded out and all our gear was in 6 " of water for a few days !
Insurance company had everything dry cleaned and i set all 5 tenets up in the backyard to dry - lucky it was 30+ outside. Moral is, up off the ground preferably.

Move shed inside

I keep mine in storage boxes under the stairs and everything gets a good clean and metals get Lanolin sprayed before going away Learnt that after one light rusted and the other started too

Those large clear plastic tubs from Crazy Clarks / The Warehouse with snap on lids work wonders in the garden shed plus they're stackable.

Good luck! I use those big ass storage boxes from bunnings @ $9 each, not weatherproof or real strong though.

I have some of the cheap $10 ones, they usually last 1 trip and die, thats why Im thinkin space cases..

I use the Big W ones about $20 but they don't break like the Crazy Clarks one do. They are a blue semi see through plastic.
Those cases are very exy even through my work.

For space cases. If you know anyone in the army. Speak to them. As they can usually get them for a nice price (under $150) and they can claim it on tax. And theres no limit (well almost) to how many they can get.
Only problem is last time I went looking there where none available due to heaps of deployments going on.

As for the cheaper plastic ones. There great for storeing stuff around the house.
I store most of my stuff inside the house though. As my shed is full of crap and I have a 3 bedroom house by myself. So got heaps of room.

Local disposal store had the foot locker sized space cases for around $100 I think.

Light weight plastic boxes from Bunnings or The Warehouse. About $8-12 each

Then single sided foam tape the same as used in door jams of caravans and also on the space cases. Just make sure everything is dry before you close them up.

If you know someone in computers get them to collect the little water absorbing tabs. Handy little things for all sorts of stuff.

The boxes stack up as high as neded and are almost clear so you can see whats in them.

Try the black recycled plastic ones. I have 4 of them in my work ute and they are taking an absolute hiding and havn't shown any kind of damage. They're holding anything from ropes, raincoats, boots etc etc to All my larger tools that don't fit in my racks but should really be in a tool box like 24" Shifters, 36" Stilsons and such. They just bounce and slide around not restrained in any way.

Hey guys .
A tip we use in Scotland is bowls half filled with salt in shed over the winter. They will end up overflowing with the moisture they collect. Also........What is a swag? Is it a woman you take camping with you? If so we call them SLAGS
