First bit of damage - fixed now

Well, I stupidly dropped into a mud hole at Levuka, after watching a mate get stuck, went in the other way, and got stuck.
Pulled out, and found I couldn't turn left. Had a look under, and through all the friggin mud, the steering dampener was dented, and stopped compression. removed that. Seems to be a large rock in the middle of the ruts that was submerged.
Then found the clutch didnt feel right. I seemed okay the next morning, so we went for a drive.
Packed up and got 15k's before Rathdowney, and the clutch seized open. No drive. 2 hours later, and the tow truck came and got us home.
Got under it and run the hose up through the little hole, and the hole where the boot should be around the clutch through the bell housing, and the shit that came out it. WOW...
Anyway, got it going again, drove around the block a few times, and all felt good.
Left it over night, and then went driving again the followign evening, and the clutch seized again. So got under it again and run the hose with the engine running. Again lots of crap came out.
But it still doesnt feel right, so the gearbox is coming out.
All this after owning it for only 2 weeks.

uhhh....no good indeed, have fun pullin the box out, its a job i couldnt be bothered doing, but good luck with it.

thanks... I never even contemplated doing it myself at home. Will be going to seqld4x4 in the morning. The gearbox, xfer, and diff oils will be changed as well, cause I didn't check the breathers.

gearbox with transfer detatched is still around 250kg.

Wendle is 100% spot on .....man they are HEAVY !!!
I strongly sugest you hire an engine crane to do this job ....trust me I know !
bring the engine crane through the passengers side door, wrap the chain around the join between the g/box & trans....thats pretty close to the balance point, have something on wheels to lower the thing onto so you can get it out from under the 4b.
All that will save you heaps, but if you cant get a crane....get atleast 3 others to help and make sure they are STRONG !

Also, found some little dings, but cant remember doing them.!!!!!!!!
Man, the missus was not happy, Jan!!! She is not going to let me live it down cause she paid for the tow back to the coast from Rathdowney - $260 with RACQ. And then we have to get the new clutch fitted.

Last time we were at Levuka another GQ did a clutch.. they lost the clutch on the way home and it had to be towed.. ended up replacing the clutch with a heavy duty one.. Which hole did you do it in?? The one next to the fence line or the two pits in the open paddock?

the one next to the fence line around near 'bumbusters'. Never again.
Yeah I lost the clutch on the way home and had to be towed home.

relax..... your not the first !!!, I've also had a clutch seize up after I washed the rig then left it idle for a week.... rust bound up the clutch plate, took a few "revs " to break it !

I dont no about seizing up but your clutch can slip when the mud gets in between the fingers on your presure plate and drys out it wont then let the fingers put the correct amount of presure on the clutch plate cost me a new clutch after having to drive all the way back to Perth from Kalgoorlie after the Gymcana

well, got the Patrol back from the shop today... New clutch (heavy duty), second hand starter motor, new steering dampener...
All up $1500.... just what we needed. Oh well, live and learn.
Now I am ready to get back out there.
