dry cell battery?

due to the limited space under the '93 G16V Vit's bonnet, was thinking of adding a dry cell battery as the second battery & install it above the passenger side front wheel arch.
the idea is to lay the dry cell battery on its side due to the lack of space (in the engine bay) in the corner of the engine bay were the wheel arch, firewall & bonnet intersect - basically the opposite side to where the standard battery sits.
has anyone tried this & what battery would you recommend?

I look forward also to any response you may get from the experienced ones, as I too have the same issues with fitting a second battery (mainly to help power my winch) under the bonnet of our 94 LWB Vit.
What dry cell battery were you considering, Odyssey, Triton??

Odessey betteries are pretty small for their capacity, optima are a more normal size (roughly the same as a N70Z).
Look out for things that may heat the battery as this shortens its life.
Good Luck!!

Another (albeit expensive) option is to use 2 Optima 6V batterys (part# 6V-1050)
http://www.batteryservice.com/products_ ... er=6V-1050
and hook them up in series, may be easier to to mount 2/3 cell batterys in 2 different places than 1/6 cell.

i've just done exactly what u had in mind. I have a '94 LWB Vitara and i just had opposite lock fit an oddessey battery where the radiator overflow tank used to be (opposite starter battery). If u go to a suzuki wreckers and get ur hand on a battery tray from a V6 vitara ('95 2.0L.) with only a tiny bit of modification it will fit nice and snubly in the space.
........Also the oddessey batteries can be fitted in any position but upside down, i have mine mounted on its side.

i'm not sure exactly how much the battery cost, but i got the whole system installed with a chargemaster dual battery monitor and power points in the back for just over $800. I think it's about 300 for the battery ?
