I want to fit a piggy-back computer to my Patrol, however there are several options out there. Has anybody had any fitted? And what are your opinion of them?

From what I’ve researched these are the results of each. One of the problems when trying to compare products is that they are in different units, or some figures are at the engine while others at the brakes/wheels, some give figures others give a dyno report so don’t crucify me over these figures.

Product Before After
DP Chip 95Kw / 252Nm 112kW & 296Nm
Eng-Tek +22-26 hp
Motsons 84kw & 506Lb 98hp & 604Lb
Rapid +25% (I dare anyone to try to decipher the dyno readout)
Steinbauer 95Kw /130bhp & 252Nm 115kW / 156BHP & 310Nm

You find more information about each from the following.

DP Chip www.dpchip.com
Eng-Tek www.eng-tek.com.au
Motsons www.motsons.com.au
Rapid www.turboglide.com.au
Steinbauer www.steinbauer.cc/index.php?select_id=72&umenu=f

Not sure on the others, but from what I read, most computer trick the factory ecu by giving it altered input signals while the DP Chip alters the outputs.

This mean thats any and all fault sensors are still working with the DP chip. If anything goes wrong the factory ecu stilld eals with it where the other computers may block fault codes, causing bigger and more expensive issues than necessary.

That sounds like a good thing to me.

Installed the Steinbauer unit last friday, 5 wires soldered into the ECU wiring Loom, the unit simply works by talking to the fuel pump and accelerator sensor which send a voltage to the ECU.

The effects can be noticed over the entire rev range, and are noticeable without having to put your foot flat to the floor, however when you do the engine spins harder than ever before past 4000rpm, however this results in a plume of black smoke out the back.

I have just recieved a chip from Europe for my 2.8 GU.

It is distributed by SanCo in Denmark but manufactured in Germany. The 2.8 was a popular engine in Europe and considerable R&D was commited in making this chip. From what they tell me, it could be one of their first chips in Australia.

I have been told to expect between 115 - 120kw and 330 - 335Nm when fitted with in conjunction with my new 2 3/4" exhaust and dump pipe. I will probobly also block off the EGR to help with low rev boost.

I hope to install it within a week and have it tuned. I will post the results and let other 2.8 GU owners know of the outcome.

From all other reports, I hear the Motsons is the benchmark.

Cheers
