just a quick one,

seeing as all these water restrictions are in place, weve recently put a bore water pump in. I know the stuff turns everything house wise brown, so whats the go,

am i able to wash the car using bore water??? its got more pressure than our house mains, and its pretty clear actually, doesnt taste too good but

Bore water often has a high Iron Oxide content, which is why it turns things brown. But it only really seems to happen for porous things, like concrete and bricks. Should be fine to wash the 4x4 with.

bore water has alot of minerals in it , tastes good after it goes through a filter. the car isn't white is it ?? I would run it through a filter or something similar to get any solid impurities out of it first.

My first concern would be the salt content in the water???

Anybody know anything about that?

I would think that would only be a concern if there is a ground salt problem in the area as far as I'm aware ( I'm not an expert but have lived in a few places where we had bore water - we used it for watering animals and the plants) it should be fresh but just alot of minerals, Probably ask theshop you got the pump or dol ?

I live in the NT and the whole town here runs on bore water. It has a lot of calcium in it and causes a lot of scaling problems.

When you wash your car best thing to do is chamois the excess water off as I know here, any water left on the car will dry and ruin if left in the sun.

ERmmmm, isn't iron oxide the same thing as RUST?

Yes, but not in the way you are thinking. A low concentration of tiny iron oxide particles which have leached out of soil or rock - basically just brown/red dust. It is not reactive and not about to cause matal to rust.

just use it with plenty of soap and chamois dry.

how much dose it cost to get a bore put in?
& how do you know if there is a bore under ground?

I would get the water tested......

I have had problems salt, iron, boran.... just to name a few..... It really depends on the water quality, but would you wash your car with sea water....

Last time I had water from a bore tested it cost the client about $80....

Last I heard it was in the 10's of thousands. And they charge by the depth they have to dig to hit water.

Pretty much all of sydney and surrounds is sitting on a big basin of water IIRC

price for the the bore.... 10s of thousands is a bit off the mark.

most ppl would charge anywhere from $20 to $300 to dig a hole to see if you got water. Our bloke was $200. The whole install was $1300. Thats to come out, dig the hole, find water, and set up the pump. Its well worth i think.

as far as the water quality, it may be worth while to get the water tested, cos yes my fourby is WHITE, and no, i dont like the idea of washing it with sea water, and i can understand that depending on the water coming from the ground, that it could be just as bad as doing so.

For now i think ill stick to carlovers, but it might be an idea to get it tested, or filtered, because its honestly not that bad to begin with, it doesnt smell anywhere near as bad as some of the water iv smelt coming from the ground, and like i said earlier, the pressure is stronger than our house mains.

might be a different type of bore . Cause the one I saw getting dug had this massive drilling truck there. Looked expensive just sitting there

This is by far the easiest system to FULLY clean your car, without spending a cent on the home water meter. Its even good for getting the engine guck off.

the guy comes out and uses an orga and high pressure to drill down and wash the crap out that he drills. the actual machine is about the size of a small forklift and looks like a bigger version of a pole digger. runs a high pressure water line to wash it all out and up outta the way.

the holes worht a couple hundred, the pumps worth a couple hundred, the rest is labour and accessories and hardware. takes anywhere from a couple hours to couple days.

it starts getting expensive if you desperately want him to find water and just keeps digging holes round the yard, cos each one he drills will cost ya.
