Diff laminating

ok probably a stupid question, but what is Diff laminating?

Basically they weld in some bracing to stop the diff housing from bending or flexing on hard impacts. They usually use some cut down box section and "fill in" the section from the top of the pumpkin across the long side of the diff, also weled some bracing in to the knuckles on the end too as they can be a weak point. Does that make sense?

If you are doing this your self consider the clearance between your new bracing and the sump, cos it'll hit hard!

I vaguely remember some guys at the cliff hanger with a yellow GQ wagon that launched it up the creek bank and on landing dented the sump because of the diff laminating..... :roll:
