The temperature guage in my vitara always sits on cold it only moves a few mm. Is this normal?

yeah , i run a g16b , motor, and went for an after market, guage setup , as in the end, i hate to cook my pride and joy, cost is about 30 bucks and takes less then a hour.

For a normal vit, check the connections for corrosion.

to check if your guage is faulty or not un plug it off the temp sender and stick a peice of wire in it and earth it, have someone sit in the driver seat and watch the temp guage (if the gauge starts to go up to hot then the gauge is in perfect working order if not you have a faulty guage ;) )

Temp guage

... or just disconnect it from the sender unit in the engine bay, and stick the plug straight to earth.
