Outer Limits 4x4 Board

My brother is looking to buy either a 4x4 or a single or extra cab ute for approximately $10,000. Will be mainly used for driving up the North Shore as he is a mad keen surfer. Would prefer Diesel or Turbo Diesel

What can you get that is a decent car for this price?

does he have a preference in brands. if he doesn't he could pick up a mid to late 90's triton 2.5td or 2.8 deisel or maybe a similar year mazda bravo or ford courier.

or even a hilux 2.8 but i'd steer cleer of the 2.4d a bit gutless for beach work
