Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi All,

I just made a move to our nation's capital over Christmas and was wondering if any of you out there can recommend a mechanic in the Canberra area (preferably south side) who knows his way around a Rover. I used to go to Nash off road last time I was here, but I believe he's sold up and I don't live north side of town any more.

Rod and Michael @Monaro Off Road (in Queanbeyan) know what they are doing, and are realistic about what they know about and what they do not. Likewise Hume Off Road (Hume) have done a fair bit of Disco work. Avoid the dealer unless you need the work redone somewhere else!
Land Rover Club of the ACT have wide membership, so I am sure members will have other repairers. I do most of my work myself, but have experience of Ray @ Canberra Motor Works (see 460cixy's note above). Nash Off Road are now ACT Off Road Centre ... not good experiences of Nash, and none of new people.

i havent had anything to do with any of those above with the exception of ray he was good when i needed new transfer gears before the internet was popular . and i also do all my own work

Ray is pretty good for parts at the right prices for a local supplier. Gives discounts to LRC-ACT members. Otherwise I have been getting parts via internet. Morwood Mtrs have changed hands, and seem more interested in brakes, have not really tested parts prices, but they have lost their LR experience.

i was a mechanic at morwoods when i finished my aprenticeship i went out not long ago and was suprised the old boy sold up he was a nice bloke. new bloke i dont think has much of an idea about anything

looking for a mechanic in Canberra ... I think I'll try 460cixy, well at least invite him to help solve the problem.......

i dont mind lendin a hand. had fark all to do with any of that early bosh and lucas injection tho

the landrover club is good lots of trips ect club discounts ect only thing that shited me off is how every meeting is run like an anual general meeting and pedantic public servants it may of changed but i doubt it.

Tugeranong Offroad Center or Hume Offroad both quite good, knowlegable and don't wear a pirates patch.

460cixy is not bad though .... but he needs to get his junk going again!!

Re Land Rover Club of the ACT.
I am the purchasing officer, so get plenty of meetings, that I can say have improved over the last couple of years now that we have a greater number of non public servants on the committee etc. I too remember the days of meetings about meetings etc

Have a look at our web site ( http://www.lrc.org.au/ ) as the next few meetings are at different locations while EastLakes is renovated. etc, so web site will be the best place to keep track of locations and times etc. of locations and times etc. (If I remember I'll PM you the details)

Must warn you though that LRCACT is not very often into hard trips, most I would class as mild, requiring 4WD, but rarely winching etc.

well if thats the case i may be intrested in joining again. how long have you been the purchasing officer i havent had anything to do with the club since not long after the first 4x4 show at qbn the one that got rained out

Purchasing, say about 4 years I think... I just get stuff for members like recovery gear & electrical connectors. We have pretty good deals with a number of local suppliers for GOOD discounts on stuff. This upsets some of the others ... but ...

The club is about half Land Rover and the rest is split among the rest of the market.

It will probably be a month or more before I get along to a meeting. I need some time for the dust to settle on new house, job, etc.

I'm not too fussed if I don't get to winch on a trip, I don't own one and I really don't love using the Tirfor. A bit of mud on the tyres and some good scenery generally suits me.
