TOMTOM GPS

Can anyone tell me what there like .And if they are easy to use.

The stand alone gps units or the software ? I use TT V6 with a pda and bluetooth gps and find it really easy to use, the actual TT units would be even easier. I no longer use a street directory instead i tap in the address and get voice nav all the way - funny being given directions by ozzie, you have reached your f,f,f,f,f,f.cking destination!

Two of my mates have them and they love them. I was going to get one but i went with a garmin instead because my Tom Tom mates were always complaining about 1) Battery life as Tom Toms have about 2-3 hrs and 2) they wanted it to automatically turn off and on with the car via the cigarette plug.
I went with the Garmin because it has an 8 hr battery life and as long as you're using the cigarette plug it turns off and on with the car. It also has more navigational features and priced about the same.
But Tom Tom's are very nice

i have tomtom running on my nokia phone (cause i had it), i then use a bluetooth gps .
cost was alot cheaper then full blown units and it is completly portable. eg phone and something size of match box, can be dropped in pocket.
Used it for work , so far even took it up to cape / gulf trip. Logged up almost 9 thousand ks, and still going. mate who came with me was so impressed that he ordered parts and a new phone when he got back .
Screen aint huge, but i use it mainly for the voice, only as a guide.
Battery wise i get 3 hours running tomtom and mp3s in the back ground.
Like everything i use it as an aid, and still have street directory and paper maps. Also handy if speedo out, as gives a pretty close idea.
Oh a word to the wise, i had it on a trip to mums, and she is like what is that. after explaining it she is like i would never use it. well we went out for tea and on the way back i fired it up. the 20 minute trip home was say interesting and her reply is so can i borrow it when traveling . She seemed to drive a bit more agressive tho.
Other mates have tomtom or that sort of navigationon old laptops and car computers and pdas. the options are their , just depends what you want it for.

Used it on my PDA with external GPS on a trip up the Cape.
Tom Tom was useful on the roads - but obviously useless off road. Then I switched over to OziExplorer with a Hema map.
If you buy a dedicated unit you are stuck with their street routing software - useless offroad or for boating.
If street routing is all you want, the TomTom type units would be the go.
