hey guys,

just put deposit on a 93 jtop, wont be taking delivery for a few days yet, but im looking at already adding some stuff to it..

firstly the owner mentioned they had spent some money on suspension, ie raised it around 2 inches, (via the front torsion bars, and new rear springs), i saw it had plenty of travel, but it doesnt 'look' much higher than stock.

im removing stickers, painting the bullbar black and just making it look more stock by the way..

included pic below..

Image

does this look much higher than stock to you?

has maxxis tyres, i think he said they were umm close to a 33" on a 16in rim, so maybe thats why it doesnt loook that high?

comes with factory rear diff lock, centre lock and arb air locker as well as an air compressor thingy to pump up your tyres after beach runs etc.

cars obviously been 4wdriven, but it seemed ok to drive when i took it for a spin and we did a little of playing round on some back dirt tracks just so i could listen for funky noises.

anyways, it has the factory height adjustable suspension which is not working curently, he said it will increase the height nearly 2 inches or so, which would be neat, and my purchase is pending its repair basically. not sure whats wrong with it at this stage.

and since its already apparently had the front wound up an extra couple of inches, does this mean the factory ones wont actually do anything anyway?

my final question is im looking at putting a winch on it (my last patrol i wished had a winch, esp if you plan to go anywhere on your own), but ive shopped around a bit, and noticed theres all sorts available.

i checked your winch bible, but it doesnt mention much about the cheaper 'import ones' which are around $500 brand new, look the part and seem to be rated technically as well as the ones costing over $1500.

i dont expect to be using it much, but when i do need it i want it to work obviously.

are the cheaper ones more likely to fail on water crossings, or are they not so bad?

lately ive been seeing a lot of cheap imported stuff actually being pretty decent these days comparatively speaking when talking about price savings.

winches i was looking at were things like the following (brand new! if they dont insert properly just look up winch on ebay)

$700, 12000lbs

$500, 12000lbs wireless

can you get the convertible tops repaired so they arent so umm.. yellow/fogged up? any contacts for this?

and one more, can the bull bar on this be modified to fit a winch or will i need a new bar? if i can get one fitted what kind can fit on it (hi/low etc)

heres the current bullbar which im not sure if it can just be modified to jam a new winch into it..

Image

car already has dual battery etc so thats good for the winch setup i suppose.

thanks for the help, im a bit new.. :P

You're right about the adjustable suspension - if it's already lifted 2" there's not going to be a lot left to adjust at the front, so the factory movement might put you against the stops. If the rear goes much further you might get vibration issues - I wouldn't spend a lot of money on it.

It doesn't look particularly high at the moment, even taking large tyres into account. What size motor has it got?

It's got lockers front and rear? What makes you think you'll need a winch? I don't know about the cheap brands you're looking at, but I believe a Warn 10000lb low mount is too long to fit between Pajero chassis rails. If your bar is a winch bar there should be winch mounting points evident. If they're not there, buy a new bar - don't stuff around with your existing bar, because it doesn't look that good. :P

Good luck,

Scott

hey man , i remember having a look at that car last year, it had a few isues back then so it put me off,
as for the adjustable suspension if it cost's to much to fix ditch it in favour of some good aftermarket springs.

engine is the 3.0 V6 petrol.

i thought i posted this in the mitsu section, sorry if it wound up in the wrong place...

well it had heaps of travel when we took it for a test run, but the issues seemed to have been ironed out.

as for the winch thing, im just cautious

known2 - what issues did you notice?

my basic questions were simply that it didnt sit very high, i like ground clearance ;)

thanks,

i'm a bit fuzzy on the isues it had when i looked at it but included a busted cv soemthing wrong with the brakes and suspension was not working right.

also told me it was prone to breaking rear axels when locked.
