Interesting idea for the wheel carrier. Looks to be a pain in the arse to hitch and unhitch (would be heavy to drop and lift instead of conventional swing out style). How do you find it Darren? Any chance of more pics including sliders?

I originally went to overkill with the usual ideas of a swing away carrier. But they mentioned this idea to me as it was a lot stronger and easier to work. Its very simple to work and contrary to popular beleif it is much easier to work then a swing away. All you do, as from the above photo is remove the to pins in the top mounts and the carrier lowers down onto the rear leaf springs. It lowers slowly and i dont find it a problem at all. Its much easier to get a 35" tyre onto the cradle from the lowered position then try and lift a 35" tyre up onto a swing away carrier.
As for photos of the sliders will try and post up but i am not a computer nerd so this may take a bit.

Thanks dan, i didnt have any pics of the sliders/carrier being made so thanks for posting that up, I agree spare carrier is for pansies but i have been doing longer trips now since the gas conversion and it would be more of a pian in the ass not to have a spare tyre so this was the best option. It mentions in an earlier post that it is in newcastle, i did the barrys nav ex at stockton and when i came of the beach, tried to go back into 2wd and had no luck, prior to this it had been jumping out of gear a fair bit on the beach, so it was a very slow trip in low 4th gear (reductions dont help) back to newcastle. Droped it into ARB for the repairs turned out to be only a minor problem.

Would it be a major pain in the arse for me to ask for pics of how the sliders are braced underneath and attach to the chassis? I want to make/get someone to make some up but the chassis rails are so narrow on these 40's. and I'm keen to see how others have done it.

Yeah i like the carrier when i was told about it i sort of knew how the concept was going to work and when i picked it up i was stoked with it. As for the sliders you can see in the first pic of the sliders a lower bar this bar is welded to the chassis in 3 spots from memory, i am not currently with the car so i cant take pics sorry mate.

This bar is similar to what I built for Twisty's 4Runner but we changed it from swinging down to conventional as Loz uses the Runner for shopping & wasn't practical for her.
Dave will probably go for the swing down on his 40 series after TTC.
So if you want me to do the same on yours let me know

haha, thanks for the offer Brooksy. To be honest, while its a very nice looking set up and its very well made, I'm not sure its for me............but it is growing on me. What I would be interested in seeing is how Daves sliders and tube guards turn out when you get around to making them. Now thats one you might be able to talk me into.

Oh and Dave, whats the go with welding to the chassis in Qld? As far as I know its legal but have heard conflicting arguments.

I would have swapped you for a stock transfer anytime mate, and it was just up near stockton too!!!
