Commodores have one standard, and need another if they are fitted with a towbar, So I think they are nessesary on something with oversize tyres or extra weight.

I know a lot have auto trans coolers, but do commodore's also come with a power steering cooler? What model did this start?
I've been thinking about a cooler also, may be overkill, but I've got an unused cooler sitting in the cupboard so I think it can't hurt.
It will be installed on the low pressure side of the system, so what hose would you need to run to be safe?

I was thinking about it as well as all of the GU's run one but I have not had a problem with the GQ box so I think I will just wait and see if the GU box causes more pressure and heat first.

I used to be able to cook the oil in the power steering quite quickly with only 35's at low pressure.

well worth it. all u do is cut the return side and plum it in. I used fuel injection hose and hose clamps.

Im running one on mine and it works great. Even extra hose for increased oil volume will help . The wreckers sell auto trans coolers cheap as , just find one that fits

At least VR onward (maybe earler) they needed one when a heavy Towbar was fitted, then the VT LS1 had one as standard, and VT's got another one fitted with the heavy towbar.
They are just a pipe loop across the front of the car, nothing too special.
