Twin Winches?

Hi guys. A question from the UK. Ive been watchin numerous events in Australia such as the warn winch challenge series, the 8day XI and the outback challenge with great interest. Some really great footage and very different from the mud in England.
Ive noticed in recent pictures of competition vehicles they are running two winches on the front of the truck! Why is this? Ive never seen this done before. Is it to allow the parallel use of two winches at once or to serve as a spare?

Could be, but most serious comp trucks are running twin motor winch units on 24v systems - big in the UK too. There's a UK based manufacturer that is selling lots of these units over here - twin 8hp motors on high mount Warns, hardened shafts, free spool etc etc.

often the second is a stronger winch for really getting stuck, or hydraulic for constant use

We run a high mount on the front for all the rocky stages and we mid mount a PTO for all the mud and long straight pulls so we don't burn the electric out in the mud !

Could be, but most serious comp trucks are running twin motor winch units on 24v systems - big in the UK too. There's a UK based manufacturer that is selling lots of these units over here - twin 8hp motors on high mount Warns, hardened shafts, free spool etc etc.
Any info or links to these units.

Your right, the UK manufacturer is Gigglepin. The system replaces the top housing with one which accepts two xp motors. From the videos ive seen its exceptional. Ive also seen systems where two 8274 are fixed to the same drum. One winch is mounted in reversed and a wider drum fitted between the two. This seems powerful but i'm not sure if its quicker, apart from reducing the load on each winch.

it doesnt make it faster no load, just under load its faster as each motor is pulling half each. Less chance of burning your motor aswel
But you will burn your wallet if you want one
early version of the gigglepin twin winch mod
a different one
