Ive never really played and dealt with diff centres before. Should they be and look the same front and rear? its a widetrack 93 sierra.

Yes they are different post about 85. Before this the front and read were Identical. Post 85-ish the front has only 2 sungears, and the carrier is more open. You cant use these with lockrights, but you can fit another rear center to the front. You just need to change the sidegears and possibly the shim washers as the front takes a smaller axle.

thanks juju. next question, the lock rights are still the same for both of those diffs even tho they are different?

Yep, the side gears mesh with the sides of the lockright.
This is what I have done. Both diffs use lockrights that are the same part number. No such thing as front or rear ... well for a zook anyway.
Swap the side gears left to right inside the centers so the more fresh side of the sidegear drives the lockright center.
Its only the side gears which are different because the front axle is smaller in diameter and has different number of splines.

thanks Juju, i thought that was the case(same front and rear) just checked coz they looked different once pulled out.
I'm actually getting a diff guy around the corner to install them and set backlash and do the seals for me.
I will mention the swapping the side gears, he may do that anyway.
Thanks

Just incase you missed it ... You can not put a lockright in the 2 sungear front center (the more open type carrier), you need an extra rear center (the almost completly encased type one)

YES, if you want a lockright type locker in the front. You NEED an extra rear center, but SWAP the side gears from your existing front to the extra rear, then bolt this in the front.
