Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Ok so there is an annoying missfire on my car tha comes and goes.. but it only goes when my V guage is reading off the charts.. stuck a multi meter on the batteyr at 2000 rpm and it was gettin 18v or there abouts...

Just wondering is this normal or is it over charging?

And could it be my alternator is on its last legs?

Most likely faulty regulator. depends on the car, could be mounted on the alternator or external. Rest of the alternator should be fine. But fix it asap coz batteries & other car bits don't like overcharging!!

Hi Rhysta, As post by Toy80Diesel, you need to fix that ASAP because if nothing else you could cause your battery to explode.

Before you do anything else, check all your earth connections, a loose earth can have a similar effect.

Not being super mechanicaly minded what is the regulator and where abouts would it be on a gq?

and would this how would this effect the missfire?

Is it a easy part to replace? I can do most things with the gregory's manual.

Ok found the regulator.. its internal.. anyone have any experinace with replacing one of these jigga's?

Or am i just better of sticking a new 120amp bisch job on it now?

I think the regulator should set you back around $30, plus labour if you get an elec to fit it. As to the 120amp upgrade thats up to you. If you already have it, it would have a regulator of its own so that would fix it also.
