I have a 91 model shorty and mine is terrible bout 20l for 60km. I think the gaskets have dryed up of something. It runs gas as well.

if you are running 35's or bigger I would sugest 4.6 diff gears, modified rotor butten, extracters always run genuine plug leads all of these little things add to a good running motor wich means less time with the right boot to the floor because the only time you really chew the juice is when the second throat opens up.

The modified rotor butten will create a more cleaner spark in the distributer, All it is they do is simpley tig or bronze weld a tab to the edge of the existing contact point on the rotor butten wich closes the gap between both terminals,
also improves high reving.

So where can these modified rotor buttons be bought from? How much?
and my last question, (for now) where do I find a kit of somesort to convert to electronic ignition?
I run LPG on my carby 4.2 and it has a bit of a rough idling issue.
Cheers,
Rod

1. Diesels Suck
2. You will never get anything close to reasonable economy with a TB42
3. My fuel economy got heaps better with the V8, more than double the power and less fuel!!
4. Plenty of places can modify the rotor button for you, shouldn't cost more than $20 plus a new rotor button.
5. Get the Ignitor brand electronic ignition, simple and works brilliantly. The best ~$300 you'll ever spend.
If you're in Melbourne I know Aus4WD can modify the rotor and they stock the elec ignition modules.

My brother gets 15lper100k from his 4.2 GQ wagon on 31" tyres. Spoke to a guy on the weekend who said extractors gave him an extra 50k to his range in a GQ wagon & he was on 35". My GU 4.5 is around 18lper100k on 35" allterains. Also all the above vehicles are manuals.
