Why not swap the whole air box back to the tray.

By running the intake down under the cab than up on to the tray.

Which will have plenty of room for the air box as well`` If the engine bay is over crowded with things like intercoolers etc :?:

this isnt ideal as it will warm the air as it travels past exhaust/gearbox. I have seen it done and i know it works, but it isnt my perfect choice.

I'm in the process of fitting new exo cage and snorkel. The snorkel is 4" exhuast tube and it will run on the inside of the cage down through the bonnet into a custum airbox on the firewall. Obviously I have removed everything from the engine bay except he engine and so there is plenty of room for this. My snorkel will now be the length of the windscreen and will not stick out at all, unlike it did when it went through the guard. Takes a fair bit more modification but I think it is worth it.

Not yet as it is still not fully together. Hopefully I'll have the filter box and snorkel done in about 2 weeks, assuming the turbo gets fitted and the ecu tuned as quick as I need!

Why doesn't someone build the snorkle INTO the exo cage ie the a pillars will be 3"or 4" medium wall tube. You could have dual snorkles, the cage would be 10 times stronger than using 32nb pipe and it would look hot.
Would need to adapt pod(s) to top, and rubber/ plastic elbows at bottom thru the guard.

One word. Weight! I can pick up and walk with my entire cage including the mount braket for the mid mounted winch, the brakets for the twin 25 plate batteries and the frame for the deck. I want the truck to be under 2000 kgs ready to race excluding crew.
It is looking likely that we will have the airbox inside the cab as we are running out of room in the engine bay! Will see what happens next week when the turbo is fitted, the airbox will be fitted last.

Air box in the cab. If you are talking about sucking the air out of the cab it does get very noisy. I priced up a 5 inch ram and air box which was a 90 degree one and it came in at around $200. The air box comes with all fiter elliments too. Run the piping through cab and out of back panel to air box then upto ram above roof.

Yeah, airbox in cab and intake behind the cab is a possibility. There's no way an incab intake would be feasible with the cfm I need to supply. The filter has been spec to provide no restriction for 1000cfm, which seems way too much to me but I'll just do as I'm told for these bits. But when you take into account my previous TD42 needed just over 550cfm I guess bigger motor with twice the revs is going to use a bit!
