SCAT 12R to 18R

Post by ORSM45 »

gday all,
ive done a search and all the topics that came up shaded off before i got any answers.

just wondering if an 18r will fit in place of the scats 12r, or do you need a new bellhousing?
the 12r is cactus and they are getting pretty rare these days so a more common engine is needed.

thanks,
macca

I did that conversion on my scat.Dellow sell the coversion kit.
But the bell housing was a bit rough had to re-drill some holes. And had to grind the left engine mount to clear the alternator.
I also think the 12r was a better motor the 18r doesnt like it in the bush it losses oil pressure to the timing chain tensioner on steep climbs and it doesnt sound very healthy and can take a minute or 2 to come good.
And because you cant change the gearing it doesnt really go that much better a bit stronger on the hills thats about it.
Im looking for a 18rc-with a yamaha twin cam head. This rally guy told me about them but Ive never heard of them.

cheers craig
