can anyone explain to me, the difference between a series 1 jimny, and the series 2??
and/or the date of the changeover??
is the 2 better?? (would hope so), does the 1 have any redeeming features??
thanx, will. (future jimny owner)

im guessing the series 1 came with the g13bb sohc 16v engine
and the series 2 came with the m13a dohc 16v engine, maybe with vvti, not sure.

I believe that the series 2 came out last year and now employs a button 4wd engagement over the stick in conjunction with auto locking hubs. They are also running the VVTI over the DOHC.
Dunno if it's the better way to go for suzuki, but time will tell. The auto locking hubs are starting to fail on a few older jimny's where they loose suction to activate the hubs. We'll soon see what the failures are on the series 2.
Regardless they are still a great little 4WD.

Hey Yodi,
The G13bb was the first engine and was changed with the M13a in the second half of 2000. Then in 2005 a M13a with VVTI engine was introduced.
G13bb = 59kw
M13A = 60kw
M13A with VVTI =62.5kw
Apparently the VVTI has the best engine breaking for off roading, but I believe it does require premium unleaded to run. Me I have the M13A and love it!

Series 2 up until 2006 was lever activated 4WD, now push button. All Series 2 have airbags.... Series one may not have the DOHC but at least they are easy to bodylift.
My flatmate has a Series 2 it doesn't appear to be as well-made as my Series one was

How do you figure?
I know quite a few jimny owners that wouldn't look back. I give mine a fair bit of poo and it never stops. Great little rigs...i love 'em.

Agree on that one.... Stimpy was probably one of the best vehicles I have every owned. People really underestimate the little buggers.
But Stimpys trim etc just appeared to have held up better that hers... knocks and bangs, things falling off and rattles and such
