Which Steering Damper?

Hi Guys.

Just wanted your opinions on what brand/model steering damper i should get?

Its for a 97 discovery that will be running a steering damper re-location kit on it, so im after a defender damper.

Ive run OME before on another LR and everything was good but i just wanted your opinions. Are the dampers with the self-centreing springs any good or are they a gimmic?

The disco will be running a 2" kit and 265/75 mud terains. It will be used mostly on road but i will be regualrly taking it offroad on some hard trails.

Thanks guys.

I have a bilstein one on the 110, but have run a few different types on the IIA and never noticed the difference. OME are pretty average quality IME.

Return to centre are a gimmick IMO.

Curious

Was just starting to think about this myself on a 94 Disco as whilst changing the oil the other day noticed it is looking very sad and dented and doubt it is doing anything

What are others running?

Totally agree with HSV, this is the best unit to fit, and being strongly built even takes a bit of front end punishment.

Yeah, got a Bilstein on my Rangie too. The one it replaced was well flogged and the difference was great! Nice a solid feel through the wheel (steering). Can't compare against a new one of different brand though. Whatever you pick, relocating it is a great idea. Mine has a massive cave-in on the shaft cover thanks to Mt. Sugarloafs finest.

Mine too

Sounds like that could be common.... Mine looks a little like someone used it as a jacking point!

I had really bad steering shimmy on the Rangie until I threw on a Bilstein steering damper so it did above the call of duty.
