G'day all,
yes it's another newbie ! Great forum, I hope someone can help.
I've had my Paj about 6 months now and finaly got around to changing the
diff, gearbox, and transfer case oils. When I removed the trans drain plug
there was a 8mm dia ball bearing on the plug magnet !!! What the heck is
this from ???
I hav'nt noticed any strange noises or anything, also the oil seemed a lot
thinner than it should have been !!! Thanks in advance,

It's a detent ball from your shifter rail.
It has come adrift for some reason and fallen into the case, your lucky the magnetic plug picked it up as it could have jammed something.
Keep the ball and you will have to remove each of the 5 detent switches on the rear of the t/case to see which one it came from.
See this thread for more imfo :- http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modul ... php?t=9760
It's also a good idea to buy a Gregory's as it shows it all quite well.

Thanks Frank,
I thought you would know what it was, I got a Haynes manual
because it had more Diesel Eng info but it only has 2 pages on the transfer case !
Have you heard of this happening before? I'm wondering what is going to
stop it happening again when I replace it !
Thanks again 4 the info,

Yeah it has happened before to another forum member after a body lift.
He wasn't so lucky and the t/case jammed in 4wd, he had to remove the case and pull it apart to get the ball out.
I don't know why it would come adrift, maybe the spring has collapsed allowing the ball to roll free ??
