who is the best turbo diesel specialist in Melb

Hi, I am wanting to take my gq 4.2 turbo diesel to get it setup properly, mainly cos of the 300 odd kays to a tank of fuel problem that I have, but I also want it to go a bit better.
I spoke to Ray at Turbo Engineering in Thomastown and he really seems to know what he is talking about. He said he wants to fit a boost compensator to the injector pump. Does anyone have any experiences here?

Ray is the man, very smart.
One of the most meticulous operators I’ve come across in the 17 years in the automotive industry.
A boost compensator is a must for any turbo charged diesel. You are selling your self short with out one, over fuelling at low rpm and leaning out at high rpm.

Thanks guys, I want to make sure it is right this time, I reco'd the motor about 6 months ago and fitted the denco turbo kit at the same time. Nobody told me that the oil is pumped straight from the pump to the oil pressure sender (where my turbo feed line is.) instead of through the oil filters first. Being that the engine was still being run in, there are naturally small deposits of metal being pumped into the turbo, and this has destroyed the turbo. I sent it back to denco and naturally enough no warranty, so had to fork out 850 clams to get it reco'd. So now I have a remote oil filter mounted up for the turbo, hopefully it will be right now. I think ray at turbo engineering might be the man, he really seemed to know his shit when I spoke to him on the phone.

f thats the case, go to Denco. I did with mine, and could not have been happier with the service. Just take a friday off work and go up..

Where abouts did you go?, I hear there is one in Geelong and Melbourne?, did they put one of these boost compensator things on?

I enquired about having one fitted to a 100 series. 90% of the people I spoke to said it was a waste of money. They are only fitted mainly to control the amount of soot coming form the exhaust at low or high boost. I think you would find the difference in power minimal.
I have used JPC and have been very happy. Well priced and good advise.

your just not serious about getting the most out of yours... if you were serious you would spend the $20-30k to get your car shipped out here, sorted out for 4 hours and then sent back..

I've had my TD42 serviced, dynoed and tweaked initially by Andrew at Diesel Tec and recently Ray at Turbo Engineering.
I found both excellent. I've had some recent problems with my car and decided to give Ray a go. He found a few problems which he fixed and even tweaked more power.
I've recommended Ray to some friends and they too say he was great.
Go and see both and judge for youself. Ray is also closer to home which does make it easier.

The problem for me is that I am 3 hours away from Melbourne in Warrnambool, and I own my own business, so it is hard to just fly down there at any time, I have booked it into Ray at Turbo Engineering next Friday and he is going to put a 3"mandrel and dump pipe on , a boost compensator and tune it for me, be interesting to see what difference it makes.

I can relate to that lowexf. I'm also self employed and time is important.
Actually just came back from Warnambool last week. Was there for a holiday. Anyway, I think all will go well with the work. You will be happy.

since your down that way, Darren at ATS in Geelong would have been worth talkin to.. his TD42 pushes his 37s across the country pretty well

If I'm going to Geelong I might aswell go to Melbourne, only about another hour. I have a conference for work on next weekend, so it will work out well, drop off the patrol friday morning and pick it up sat lunch. I spoke to Ray yesterday and have decided to go for a 3" mandrel system and dump, a boost compensator and a dyno tune, hopefully it will make a big difference, and he reckons about 2 grand should pull it up for trade price.

Ray refitted and tuned an ARB turbo kit on a 2.8 hilux we had years ago. Changed the exhaust housing, oil cooler, dyno tune etc. He is very good to deal with and knows his stuff. At the time, we used to wheel with a friend who worked for ARB and had a safari turboed 2.8 'lux. My car was so much more powerful it was embarassing- I could just pull away from him in any gear at any time.
Definitely recommended.
Also, back when we were going there, he always seemed to have some interesting stuff in there to drool over - 600hp twin turbo vette... turbo harley, that sort of thing.
