nissan patrol MK 1984 2.8...

when i put my headlights on the back of the combo switch starts to burn... i took all the covers off, and only one of the brass bits gets hot... but i dont know what one or what it does..

im running a pair or lightforce 240's and 4 other spotties... lightforce are on a piranah loom... and the 4 others are on another loom... they both join to the hi beam at the back of the headlight, and are also on switches.

Does the problem happen with all your spotlights turned off? Presuming it makes no difference...

If it gets hot on high beam AND low beam, it's the common. But, without knowing if it's positive switching or negative switching, that doesn't help.

If it's the switch itself getting hot, that indicates that the switch itself is the problem. It would be good to pull it apart and clean the contacts - not necessarily an easy thing to do.

OK, I can't help.

Are the headlights relayed? Got bigger headlight globes? Dirty/bad connections in wiring? Headlight wiring to small?
All will increase load on switch, therefore increase heat.
