Outer Limits 4x4 Board

If you look in the F300 manual you will see reference to an oil to water oil cooler fitted to the engine for some markets.

Unfortunately my F300 doesn't have one ( F310 & other markets ? ) and
I really am out of radiator space so it seemed a usefull option.

The local Daihatsu 4WD wrecker had never seen one ( so he said ) but after looking at Applauses ( not all but especially late model ) guess what they have fitted ?

You guessed it, the identical oil coller and lines ! Its a bot on job except
you need to have a pipe soldered into the bottom radiator tank.

If you lok in the F300 manual this detail is completly missing - its shows
the cooler and top pipe in all its detail but the hose to the radiator is not
shown or mentioned.

The wrecker charged me $10 for the lot.

And before the purists start - a propper oil cooler would be better, but with a trans cooler, intercooler, and radiator up front already its way better than nothing.

My radiator is a 3 row conversion instead of the stock 2 row so there's spare thermal capacity even at higher power levels.

ive got it standard on my feroza... cant beat 10 bucks for it though. you got off easy! its a very easy bolt on. just remove the plug on the block, install the metal hose to the block, run a rubber hose from the cooler to the radiator and volia... dont think it would make much difference?

I suppose it is the same principle as some auto transmissions running a cooling line into the edge of the radiator (VS Commodores for one).

You have to be very careful about cracking or any leaking between the oil cooling pipes and the radiator, as you will get water in your oil.

Many a VS auto transmission has been fawked up due to this alone occurring.

My radiator runs very hot... and I wouldn't think it would impact much on the temperature of the engine oil... What temp does engine oil usually run at in comparison with the cooling system fluid?

I just fitted a small cooler to my power steering we had lying around and it works a treat can't hurt to cool it down a bit... and my fluid isn't going brown anymore

As you said... many don't come with one... so its better than that

Can't argue - seperate is best, but space at the front is an issue for me.

This type of cooler has a couple of virtues - it does cool the oil and peak oil temps are well worth controlling especially if you are making extra power and they also warm the oil up more quickly - which is also not a bad thing.

Have seen systems that over cool the oil and create problems - some OE systems have built in thermal bypasses to stop overcooling.

However I suggested it as a cheap easy fit, not as the perfect solution....
