Leaf pack flexing

I have heard you can get more up-flex out of leaf packs by removing a leaf or two, Do you have to cut the centre bolt after removing the leafs?
And... can this mod be done without removing the leaf, just unbolting and jacking the diff housing, unbolt centre bolt and remove leafs, trim bolt and re- assemble?
If this is possible does it affect ride height? if I have 2" lift springs and remove two leafs each corner, will I loose the lift?

yeah matt will get more flex,
i did it exactly the way you described jacked up of the chassis so the diffs were sitting on the leafs then remove them from the bottom.
height loss will be determined by what and how many leafs you remove.

Cheers,
Did you have to trim the centre bolt? And would you take two or three? as it's only the top two that are looped at the ends for the shackle, I have seven leafs per pack and was thinking of taking three but don't want sagging, do want flex! will I be able to have the best of both worlds or is it a trade off, one for the other?

i didn't do it to my MK, that had the full leaf packs for lift in it.
I've just done it to my leafy GQ ute. took the bottom load leaf out of the front and four leafs out of the back now has 5 front and rear, the rear now sits abit lower tho. but it now flexs. i haven't trimed any bolts yet but a would recommend it because my U-bolts are also too long now.
Because yours is ute on shorty it would be lighter now in the rear than it was before so should probably take a few more out of the back than front.
Best to try first and see what you think of it, you may have to try a few different arrangements (eg. number of leafs and what ones you keep)
Just have a play around first and don't trim any bolts untill you happy with the end result.
