Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Tried to get a price on tyres today and was told Simex is no more. There are two brothers, one owned Simex and the other Simes. Sounds like a lot of bad feelings between the two and simes ended up buying out simex. Both companies tyres are made by a third company who has bumped up the prices so simes has decided to drop most of the simex range and sizes. According to the local tyre guy, 35x15x12.5 are on the hit list to be dropped. Only the stuff in warehouses is left and once gone, thats it. I wanted to get mine one at a time to spread the cost over a few months but guess that is not going to happen now

That dealer has no idea at all.
Sime and Simex were once owned by the large Malaysian company Sime-Darby. They have sold there controling share to Continental.
Continental have planned to market all Sime and Simex tyres under one name, that is Sime. If you wish to know more on the fate of Simex just call Chris Hummer on 03 97204545.
As far as I know Simex Extreme and Jungle Trekkers will be still around for a while yet!!!!!!

Who told you that load of bollocks?

Did they try and sell you some other brand instead? Sounds like a tyre place having trouble getting stock and making up some bullsh1t excuse why they haven't got any.

Nev this information is comming from a reputable source. Cracker knows what he is talking about when it comes to these companies. Call Chris Hummer if you need more reasurance or want to know a better dealer to buy from.

Thanks for clearing the water guys. The guy was not trying to sell me anything else, even offered to source some tyres for me. Sounds like someone has fed him some half truths though has thrown me a bit on the idea of buying one at a time (btw I did not tell the guys of my purchase plans).

I always thought they were the same company, Sime, and SimeX was just Sime 'Xtreme', marketting name for their 4x4 range. I hope they dont stop making the ET's

Simex make 185/65/14 trailer tyres, they are not very Xtreme.....

Chris Hummer is (or was) sole distributer in Aus for JT's and ET's. I heard somewhere he even had input into design of ET's for Malaysian Rainforest Challenge. He only sells to a limited number of retailers so as to not oversupply the market. (probably keeps demand and prices up)

Simex also make highway tread (must be there extreme highway range )

Simex also have a passenger car range of tyres. Eg SM8200 etc

They sell that many of them compared to other 'extreme' offroaders, I don't think that they will stop makin em.

Yes, Simex make car tires, had them on the 626 few yrs back, were quite grippy, but wore fast..

Chris told me last year he only sells 3,000 pa Simex throughout Aust & NZ... not that many really

Well as far as i'm concern as a Malaysian it's just as hard to source XT and JT tyres these days.
Some poor fellars have to even drive up to Thailand just to get some old stock.

some how after continental bought a bigger share tyre supply been limited.
Sigh.

Continental has been expanding through take over`s for some time now.Quite a few smaller uropean tyre makers have gone.My trucks tyres were made by a firm called Semprite they have since been taken over as well.The did not include any of the Semprite range,just got rid of the oposition as they have done with other companys.

im certain this is the case. they are sime in malaysia? but simex everywhere else, stands for SIME eXport

Continental doesn't make an off-road tyre so I'm tipping that all will be well in Simex land. Conti is a big company so there should be improvements in R&D and quality.

I just wish they would make a 35x11.50R17. Cos that's what all the cool alloy beadlocks come in. Its that or Maxxis whip up a 35x12.50R17 Bias trep for me.
