Hi there all
Had a look at another cruiser yesterday - its a 87 turbo diesel 60 series (factory turbo).
I took it for a drive and after driving the standard 2h - this goes well
I have never owned a 60 series before and I would like to ask the forum of what traps to look for on these vehicles.
Thanks in advance
Wayne

60 series driveline is bullet proof.. no.. bomb proof..
The mains things to look for is RUST. Have a good look around the gutters for signs of rust or repairs. These things rust from the inside out, so even a minute bubble of rust can be a bigger problem inside the roof channel. Rust inside the front doors near the hinges aswell.
Check usual 4B stuff, oil leaks, front steering knuckles etc.
You should get half a million trouble free K's from a well looked after 12HT.

Hi there
Thanks for the responses - just a final question what sort of $$$.
He has told me to make an offer - its done 200,000km and he's talking around the $4500.00????
The paint has faded and a few small dents - but generally in good condition.

Holy crap... An 87 60 series with a 12HT for 4.5k... GRAB IT..
A 12HT from a wreckers cost you 4k..
If it's a legit car then that's cheap
Cheers Dan

I'm about to pick up a 89 GXL with a 2H turbo with 277 000km for $6k which i consider to be a good price considering the vehicle is virtually immaculate and has tonnes of accessories.

Gday Wayne.
I reckon that you should buy the 60 then swap the 12ht into your midi, if you still own it. then put the 2h in the 60 and sell it again.
Cheers.
Dave.

Hi there
The mwb might be heading your way (QLD) - the new owner will be flying into Adelaide next week to have a look (I have no dought he will like it).
I loved the off road abilities of the midi - but just needed the four doors.
I am impressed with the turbo 2h - its not in my drive way yet but visually planning a few mods already.
Many thanks

You sure this thing is a 12ht as everyone supposes. Mite pay to get some one who is familiar with em to have a look. Can't be too cautious.

good point.
Factory turbo has a different flat and square rocker cover, whilst the 2H has a rounder one.
12HT also has 12HT written on the block, passengers side toward the back of the block. 2H has 2H on the block.
The crossover pipes are pretty obvious to. Think one says TOYOTA on it and the other says TURBO
12ht or 2h turbo

Hi there
Spoke with the Mechanic's off-sider - as you had me questioning this as I didnt realise there was a difference ( I thought al factory turbos 2h were 12ht engines).
He believes is the 12ht as it has no glow plugs and the injectors lines are different (I dont know but I surpose they do) - does this make any sense.
All the best

all factory turbo 60 series are 12HT, there is no factory turbo 2H, 2H is the NA version of the 12HT.
12HT has no glow plugs and different inectors+lines so your mechanic mate is right on the money.
