i just bought a 99 300tdi that was overheating. I got the radiator cleaned and it turned out that the baffle in the tank that stops the water from flowing straight from the inlet to the outlet was broken and no water was flowing through the radiator. This also caused the head gasket to go, lucky the ...

60 Series Auto to Manual Conversion

Just finished switching out the auto for a 5 speed in the 60. She has a 2H with turbo running 10psi. The auto box decided to lose all interest in going forwards so I thought it was time to ditch it for the manual cog swapper. Performance has increased so much I cant believe its the same car. Must ...

2H Power Up

have been struggling with a problem with my 2H Powered 60 series with AIT turbo since i bought it a few months ago. I bought new injectors and adjusted the pump but it was still sloooow and used heaps of juice (20L/100km). I thought the tappets were ok so i never bothered checking them until ...

what is the basic key to flexing leaves? is it in the shackles or the spring packs? is it better to get a spring specialist to make them up or are the off shelf packs good enough?

Coily 60 series?

How hard is it to convert a 60 to coil springs? Can you bolt the body onto an 80 series chassis? Or should i just buy an 80 and be done with it?

Has anyone done this conversion successfully without spending heaps?

I just changed out the injectors for reco ones. There is heaps less black smoke, and it needs much less throttle to get the same power as before. The turbo seems to spin up a bit quicker too. I'll have to see how the next tank goes. I'm heading to adelaide next week so I'll be able to get a real ...

UPDATE - i changed the fuel filter. Now I get 15l/100k. The injectors will cost $400 all up to get new ones so I'm going to get them ASAP and see how that goes. I'm not sure how a fuel filter could cause this much of a difference, but the figures don't lie. I got 450km to 66 litres. I would have ...

bit hard to tell but it could be a big end bearing. they usually only knock in a narrow rev band and will do it mostly when there is no load or very light load. should be able to hear it loudest if you hold it at the same revs in neutral, or maintain a constant speed in a low gear, but it will ...

sounds like its might be something electrical. problems like these are a PITA to find. i had a wire rub through and short out intermittently on my old fourby. i found it 6 months later, after replacing ecu's and sensors, it was just one crummy wire that caused me so much trouble. good luck.

I should have mentioned that a whine in any one gear only can also mean the case hardening has worn off from the teeth and without it, the massive increase in friction causes the metal to fatigue and crack. had this happen in a 5 speed nissan box, it whined for a week, then spat 5th gear and smashed ...

Also, if it means anything it stalls if you're climbing a steep hill in low range then back off and it rolls back a bit in D. I thought you would have to really try to snuff out a diesel.

Pump and injectors look like they have been tinkered with. Would timing really cause that much of a difference? I notice that if i rev it flat out in neutral it blows a big cloud of black smoke. I just bought a 60 series 2H diesel with AIT Turbo kit fitted. It seems to run perfectly, only blowing some black smoke at full throttle on take off, and a fair bit more at peak revs, but nothing in between. It is auto, and running only 9psi boost. I bought it to get rid of the petrol guzzling ...
