The problem with XJ towing 3T is not the engine

you have a mid size wheel base a small D35 real axle and monoque construction so the trailer ends up steering the XJ

If you want to tow 3 T regularly and want a Jeep then a FSJ is the choice standard with a 360 V8 and plenty of weight to tow well ...

Its not so much the tread, but the diamater. the Diesel is slow enough as it is. It can only be worse turning 35's in the traffic. Which is why I am thinking about keeping the 31's as dailys and the larger tyres for the weekends.


Heaps of stuff available....Interco do a great tyre called the LTB ...

Maxxis creepy crawlers are a great tyre I run 35" on my Cherrokee, dont think i'd run them on a daily driver though. I think your spot on about running a smaller tyre then changing them when you go wheeling, pia though

35s!!!!! I assume you have some fairly decent(and expensive) diff upgrades in there. What drivetrain modifications have you done?

Super 30 front, upgraded disc front, over the knuckle steering, Rear dana 44 superior axles arbs front and rear, disc brakes in the rear. Custom driveshaft, slip yoke ...

I've got two Xj's one on 35" and is fairly unstoppable. The other is on 31" and i've just swapped in a new motor so if I can do it in my mother in laws garage then all I can say is that any mechanic who says they are hard to work on should go back to tech. Once you get to know where to look for ...

Yeh mine just went to 34volts, the regultaor is in the alternator and you have to replace the lot. you can pick one up from mascot motors second hand around $80.00 or new from chrysler around $800.00

I suggest modification...

I have fitted a similar roof to a mates car and when we found problems we went to a foam and rubber shop and then went to a hardware shop and not bunnings sort of thing. We actually went to a shop that sells HARDWARE components for different locks and tie downs etc etc ...

I have a similar problem, i need the "clips" that would hold the front section of such a roof to my sierra. Anyone know where I could pick some up from?
