Re: Disco/Classic rangie Axle compatibilty
My 93 has the same outer flanges etc as the 97 disco axles I have. I have not however pulled these 93 axle shafts to count the splines on the diff end. I have seen photos of the later style axle shafts with 10 spline inners. So there must have been a transition period.

Oh also picked up a VDO pyro on tuesday. I noticed it comes with 5 metres of wire from the sender to the gauge. I have seen a few comments online saying you can't shorten it.. is this the case on the VDO guages too? I used a VDO pyro kit and the instructions leaflet said not to cut the cable as it ...

yes I believe it is.. threaded rod on the waste gate. Is it 3 turns = 3psi? screw out == looser == less pressure to open wastegate?, screw in == tighter == more tension/pressuer required to open wastegate? It'll take a few tests to set the boost pressure with the wastegate. It depends not only on ...

Re: external vs internal wastegates?
It takes exhaust heat to drive a turbo, if you are getting enough boost to think there is a problem, then it is likely an overfuelling problem showing as high boost. What is your engine, what is the turbo and how much boost are you running? Do you have an EGT gauge, if so where is the probe located ...

Re: 3b turbo
Just one other thing to check. Your turbo has a round entry and your manifold has a square exit. It may pay to put a plate in there with a nicer transition.

Cheers, I don't know what the stock setting for the wastegate is, but it probably changes a little when you clock the turbo. Most guys are running under 10psi.

Re: mech diesel timing + turbos
I follow on the retarded timing giving high EGT's due to the fuel still burning on the exhaust stroke, but wouldn't advanced timing be just as bad with ignition occuring pre-TDC? Detonation and pre-ignition is baaaad last time i checked Ignition always starts before TDC. The goal is to hit maximum ...

Re: mech diesel timing + turbos
Going too far advanced can also give very high EGT's which is not good for turbo life. If you don't have a boost compensator on your pump, bit of black smoke when you first put your foot down is ok, but should stop once the turbo spools up. More advanced gives lower EGT. It is more retarded that ...

Re: mech diesel timing + turbos
Essentially. Too far advanced sounds rough, gives crisper response but can smoke black if gone too far. Too far retarded is hard to start, gives doughier response and smokes white if you hit the extremes. By trial and error you can find a pretty good setting. More retarded gives more energy out the ...

Re: 3b turbo
Yes the cooling is another reason I kept to 10psi for that turbo size. 50% more power = 50% more heat.
You won't need a relief valve. But you will need to secure all hoses that are subject to boost pressure. Pop the wrong one off and your engine thinks it's party time.

Re: 3b turbo
Just remember you NEED 20psi of boost :) Followed by the need for a new head, new precombustion cups and possibly new pistons. I sized that GT2052 to get the broadest boost range on that engine with about 10psi max. IMO more on a 3B is asking for trouble. It's fine to run more if you are prepared ...

Re: My upgrade for M10 studs into toyota
One thing I can't find in your write-up. Actual tightening torque. The whole problem originally is not enough tension on the bolts which let the drive-flanges move. If you can stop the drive-flanges moving, then there is no problem. Step one would be to put the strongest possible bolts in the ...
