Hilux diesel tacho

Post by Ranga133 »

Hey guys,
I'm almost at the end of my project of putting a 22r into my hilux.
I'm up to wiring up the tacho, for the petrol 22r the wire comes of the coil (true)?
But where did the diesel motor 3l 2.8 , get power from - to drive the tacho. IRS all electronically controlled if anyone can give me some insight into this it would be a big help.

Thanks

The 2.8L's tacho pickup comes off the side of the injector pump, same plug as the fuel cut off wiring. I believe the only way to get around this is to get a petrol cluster from the same model or just run without a tacho (NSW you don't need one).

Hope this helps.

One wire would give 12v on ignition only. That narrows it down to 2 at least. :D

Find out what the signal to the tacho is and find a way to replicate it. Dakota digital make a series of boxes to convert tacho signals.

my wiring is likely to be different so i can't tell you what color the wire is. however really easy to find using a multi meter, or if stuck use a LOW wattage bulb. you should here the fuel solenoid click when you put power to it. then its the other two wires. one goes to earth the other to the gauge. power to the gauge comes from the cluster. i don't know if the petrol one will fit in the same bolt holes in the gauge cluster, the bolts are also the electrical connections. if not, do what i did, as long as it fits in lock it in place and wire it separately.
