Had a similar thing in my diesel until the clutch was replaced. Even though the clutch was working fine it was down to the rivets on the pressure plate side. Once replaced the vibes disappeared.

I think you are on the right track, sounds very much like the noise i had in mine a few years ago, intermittent noise would come and go, looked at the brakes all seemed fine, and of course when i took to a diff place i couldn't get it to make the noise. Ended up with the diff being rebuilt, too much ...

Hey Simcoe, its good to see that you have done all the other things first, its just that they weren't mentioned in your first post. it seemed like a bandaid fix. You might want to check out the 4wd Action Forum under Nissan Tech for a post on this very subject.

Sounds like you may have a leaking axle seal. Does the oil smell like gear oil? If so this is your problem. If not how long is it since the CV's have been looked at? Water may have been getting into the swivel hub and diluted the grease in the CV's or the swivel hub bearings themselves.

You shouldn ...

Haven't used them myself but in the 4wd Monthly test from a while ago Pirelli Scorpion's A/T Rated highly, better on road handling than the Cooper's, as good off road, nearly as good puncture resistance, can't remember what they said in term's of noise though and i think they were pretty good in ...

Not familiar with SD33 but most times that water pump is stuffed they leak. Do Sd33's have a timing chain? If so this can be a cause of rattle. The chain stretches over time and starts rubbing on any guides that are in the timing case. To isolate were the noise is coming from run the engine and ...

Snap rings are available from Nissan About $13 each there are six sizes from 1.1mm - 2.1 mm.
