You can still get a new defender, we cannot.I have had a few people mention using an atlas behind a zf. I don't see it ,the t/case is the best part of the drivetrain. I'm more inclined to shit can the rover engines and transmissions. My series II has a vortec 350 and a "granny" four speed ...
