Re: GQ, Hilus or 60 series diff conversion for a disco1

Both the panhard and drag link are a combination of the two vehicles units.

If you look carefully at where the steering damper bracket is, on the last pic, that is where the join is.

So it is the rangie end connecting to the steering arm and the nissan conected to the diff.

I also have the GQ front and LC80 rear in my Rangie.

Here are some pics of the panhard rod and drag link.

I have a troopy with the OME dakar springs which gives about 3" lift, greasable shackles and Koni shocks.

The springs are 500kg extra, cos I used it for towing car trailers.

It still flexes good but is a little rough ride without a load. Here is a couple of flex pics with 33" tyres.

Rigid is where the trailer frame is welded to the axles, no springs are fitted.

I have friends in speedway and they swear by rigids.

BUT only if they are always loaded, unloaded they bounce all over the road.

So if you are just towing your rig to comps and home I would suggest a rigid.

If you are unsure, track down a rigid you can borrow and put your rig on it and try it out.

Go for a LED light, they are just as bright, use less power and you can get a good one for around $60.

Take it to your local roadworthy garage and ask them, might save ya $800.

Toyota are a major rip off.

I bought the belt at autobarn for ...

For the price difference I'd go for the first one and buy a roof top tent, they are about $2500.

then take the vehicle to a 4x4 service centre for a trip inspection/service to help prevent problems.

Good luck on ya trip.

I have a 95 troopy with an OME Dakar spring kit, which is about 2-3" lift and I have always run 33x12.5s and they don't touch anywhere, 4" lift is comp truck lift and makes it easier to roll your truck.

I tried everything and then I checked the the uni joints, my rear uni on the rear tailshaft was shot. I replaced it and the problem went away.

It's worth a check.

I am pretty sure that the 75 and 80 front diffs are the same and my 75 has a hilux rear diff for the front diff, all part numbers match. Toyota changed to this in about 92.

The 60 and early 75 had the same big front diff, same centre as the rear.

Not sure about the high pinion.
