If you think it's a brake/caliper problem, get it jacked up and try spinning the wheels whilst someone is applying the brake. If it is brake related and dropping/pushing to the left, it would be the right hand side I'd be checking, not the left.

I only ever use pure gum turpentine as an additive for my furniture polish. Never heard of using it in fuel. It's not generally something you hear of mentioned as a fuel additive. It's quite a while since I researched it, so can't remember specifics offhand, but the stuff does have some desirable ...

There are more commercial products and homebrews than you can shake a stick at, as far as fuel treatments/additives are concerned. Personally, I just use a mix of 2 stroke oil and pure, (gum), turpentine.

Primarily, a lack of maintenance seems to be the main cause. The coolant system isn't actually too bad. An old, poorly maintained coolant system can be absolutely shocking though.

If its 2.4 your after do your research and make sure the head has been done. That advice is starting to become applicable, (to a degree at the moment), to the 3.0L engines now too. They're not immune from cracking either. turbo diesel (after the fuel economy, low range tourque) Fuel economy and ...

I was hoping for something more like a liquid that i could just pour in the hole, seal up and slosh around, with the liquid converting all the rust and forming a protective coating. If it's not too badly rusted, I'd go with the advice above. Something lanolin or fish oil based. Provided it coats ...

the 2.4TD was an abosolute dog, the 3.0TD is a whole new ball game. That's another point where you tend to find a lot of variation. I know some of the members on the UK Surf forum have 2.4's that run like absolute slugs, whereas others have rather nippy 2.4's. Never has there been a specific reason ...

The rear carriers weren't standard on Surfs either. Some have underslung as normal, some have the rear carrier. My 2nd gen has the rear carrier. The 1st gen, however, is underslung.
