Re: Alternator not charging??

Well I got good news and bad news. The good news is I got the Triton back and everything is working again....bad news is it cost me another $300, was worth it tho.

Turns out the auto computer gadget thingo for the glow plugs is cactus, which we knew. When I bought the Triton I hooked up a switch to ...

Alternator not charging??

My alternator (4d56) has been dodgy since I bought my Triton about 9 months ago. About 2 weeks ago I finally decided to rip it out and take it in to an auto electrician to get new brushes put in it. It ended up costing me $150 as they had to put new seals in it and do some soldering as it was pretty ...

Re: Legalities of a 253 in a Hilux

Thx Scott. I wonder how many people who do the conversion actually go through all that and get it legalised?? I think I might just go with the majority (well wat I assume would be the majority lol) and just drive it. It's not gonna be a daily, just a toy. Hopefully have a suss at it on Sunday....it ...

Re: Legalities of a 253 in a Hilux

Just rang a guy from Regency Park and he said I'd need to submit an "Application to modify a motor vehicle" form with all the details on it. Then they send out paperwork which includes everything which needs to be done, then it has to be inspected.

Has anyone done this b4? What needs to be changed ...

Legalities of a 253 in a Hilux

I'm looking at buying a Hilux which has a 253 in it. Wat's the go regarding legalities with it? When ya put a 253 into one do ya need to get it engineered or anything? I'm in SA to.

Cheers.

Hilux 2L head bolts

My bro's replacing the head gasket on his 1984 Hilux. It has a 2L donk in it. All the head bolts which come out were one length. He got new head bolts, but only 4 match the length of the old ones, and the rest are about an inch longer, which won't go in all the way.

They're Nason bolts, part number ...

Re: Car alarms; which brands + where to buy (online?)

I've bought 3 Mongoose alarms off ebay bout 1-2 years ago (was a legit shop). Bought an M80, and 2 M60's. Haven't installed the M80 yet (bought it for my project car which still isn't finished), but the 2 M60's I put in and had no drama's with.

Why don't ya wanna buy off ebay?

Bash plate looks killer mate. Is 7mm a bit overkill or is that wat they're normally made out of? I was gonna use steel plate for mine and was thinkin of using something around 3mm, not sure wat thicknesses it comes in. I guess steel would be stronger then alloy tho so should be ok.

Re: 99 model heads rebuilt.

I've only ever worked on holden straight 6's and v8's....and well with them it's about 5 bux for a pack of valve stem seals and the cost of a vrs kit if ya decide to take the head/s off to do them. Not sure about other motors tho.

Re: 99 model heads rebuilt.

When does it blow smoke? Just driving around normally? When it's workin hard? Normally stuffed valve stem seals only make it smoke on startup. If it's smoking while you're driving, it could be a few things, rings being one of them. Maybe do a compression test and see what the compression is like in ...

Re: MJ Triton bodylift

Gotta finish the front bar, then wanna make some rock sliders. Got a few oil leaks to fix (the power steering leaks pretty bad), and gotta change the front diff and possibly the transfer, as sumfin makes a loud banging noise in 4wd, which is getting worse. A respray is on the cards soon, as the new ...

Re: I can see into my bell housing, that can't be right!

That's not a huge drama, maybe just try bending it back into shape somehow, but might be difficult. There shouldn't be any oil inside it, if there is it could be the front seal around the input shaft, or yeah the rear main seal in the motor....or oil which has leaked down the back of the motor, say ...

Re: MJ Triton bodylift

Unfortunately we don't have many places here that do wheel alignments, prolly around 5 or so, and out of them none really 'specialise' in 4wd's. I'm getting a wheel alignment done on Friday, from the same place that I got my new treads from, as it was included with the price, but I told him I was ...

Re: MJ Triton bodylift

Just realised now the passenger front wheel has a fair bit of camber. What would cause that? Is it the torsion bar on that side wound up to much?

Here's some pics I took 2day......can't really see the camber in the pics tho.

Transfer cases

I have an MJ Triton 2.5 turbo diesel. Just wondering wat other transfer cases will fit without any modifications? Apparently the 2.6 petrols run the same transfer case, does anyone know of any other models, even the Pajero's maybe?

Had to cut out a bit of the front gaurds, just behind the wheels, also cut off some bits inside the gaurd at the back, and also heated the panel up and bashed it back a bit. Now we're all good. The 33's don't fit properly, but only require a bit of panel to be chopped out at the rear of the front quarters. Chopped some out, but need to go more so I can turn properly.

I lost me licence a while ago and still got a few years to go, so it's mainly just for offroad. Me bro drives it around sometimes, but we live in a small country town, so mud tyres on there aren't a huge issue. Other then that it's just the occasional drive to Adelaide which is 2hrs away.
