Stuck in low range

Car is 1982 bj42 cruiser. And as title says, im stuck in low range. But, the stick still moves around, so even if the stick is in h4 or h2 its still in low range, even if the stick is halfway between the gears then its still in low range.

Can anyone help me out, cheers.

I have a BJ42, the 3b has problems, looking for a new motor.

What other motors would fit in without much work needed.

Looks to me like you know all about it and are pretty right about most of the things you said, although i dont know about the tailshaft lengths and whether you will need a new one. Its worth looking into though.

its not worth it, 40's springs are alot shorter than a 60's spring and it would be pointless doing it,

also if its from a 77 model, the bushing size is different from ur 85 60 series, so it wouldnt fit...

but dont do it, you'll be better off with the springs you have now

i wish i had....
but im getting the springs for free so all im paying for is the labour if i have to pay anyone to do it

Couple of 40 Q's (suspension)

1) im considering a 60's springs conversion, unsure of whether to do just the rear or do back and front. Also to add i have a bent front leaf from an inverted shackle. what are your thoughts?? 2) also considering a shackle reversal, is this really worth it, i've heard rumours of bad road handling ...

yea i run 2 in susp lift with 33's, on road it never scrubs

off road... rarely... only on max flex it just hits the front guard

but overall.... im pretty pleased with how high it is and choice of tyres and all that.... i think its a good setup.

this wasnt in a zook... but i broke an engine mount so we just wrapped copper wire round it and reinforced it with cable ties...

... also drove around on this for like 3 months after that, and the bodgy job was still in fine working order when i replaced the mount.

if you got a bit a cash, then you could take some leaves out and go a track bar, or even replace springs with 60's springs, this would increase flex alot... m alot of good tech in this thread, check out tojo's setup, although he is spua he's got some wicked flex. just look around for info, ih8mud ...

thanks for the pics tojo. just another thing though. putting 60s springs in you truck will move your diff back, how much will it move back, its around 150mm i think is it, and is this with or without rotated hangers. So.... if your diff has been moved back then if im right, to put your shockies back ...
