Re: Transfer case input spline count
I've heard that NP242 transfer cases have been swapped in. Not sure what that would entail, in terms of spline count and such. The NP242 has a gear ratio of 1:2.72 in low, which is much better than the original (at least in my 2.8TDI auto NL) 1:1.90 if I recall correctly. Might be worth looking into.

Re: LWB Crawler chop! Long travel test
Very interesting and very capable looking truck. Did you do a writeup of the build? I didn't find it, but I was in a hurry. About the NP231 swap, did you have a look at swapping in an NP242? I realize you probably wanted the simplicity with the NP231 but I was wondering if you knew how the NP242 ...

Re: How much can a Pajero handle?
The high range gearing in the transfer case is 1:1. You can install crawler gears in the transfer case and thus lower the low range gearing but they are relatively expensive. Another thing that apparently can be done is to swap the transfer case for a Jeep NP242, found in some Cherokees. That's ...

Re: diesel complete exhaust
I haven't done this yet, but from what I've heard 2.5" is all you need. The main performance increase is apparently that it allows you to increase the turbo boost. With a bigger bore exhaust and increased turbo boost you apparently see notable performance increases. Again, not something I've done ...

Re: Chopped up Paj...
Beware that extending the bed, while giving you more space, will also accentuate one of the Pajero's weak points, its long and dragging ass. That can be fixed to some extent with bigger tires and moving the rear axle backwards but then you run into gearing issues. It seems to me you would be better ...

Re: Chopped up Paj...
Why? Not dismissing the idea, but what do you want to gain? Seems to me it would be a lot of work for a ridiculously small pickup bed.

Re: Front diff and hub question
is it only because of the way the paj is weihted? as 2 friends, one is a sierra and one a 60 series both have welded fronts and they dont have that problem. Also i have a problem with not getting 4wd. i have replaced solinoids,4wd ecu, all connectors and vac lines, the actuator shaft is moving ...

Re: diff ratios with sas
Any pics of Pajero's with 44" tyres? Sure. Here are a couple of pictures I took on top of a glacier, during a volcanic eruption. That's a bit of the outer limits, right? :D The black stuff you see on top of the snow is volcanic ash. If I recall correctly there's one 44" and two 38": http://i968 ...

Re: diff ratios with sas
This is not a minor modification. What you mostly gain with the sas is more articulation, the opportunity to have more lift plus some other smaller gains, such as strength, less snow accumulation in the front suspension and no cv-joint boots to replace. However, you are able to raise the Pajero ...

Re: Shorty :D
My experience with SWB gen 1 and LWB gen 1 and 2.5 is that while the SWB may be more capable off road, it's not as stable on road as a LWB. I've had a few unnerving experiences with the SWB where it's hit bumps and started dancing around the road. For a travel oriented car I'd much prefer a LWB ...

Re: Tail and dash lights out, headlights work. Bad switch?
I did the same thing to my fathers 91 Pajero towing a trailer. Didn't think it was a fuse either, but in the end it turned out to be one. Made me look really silly :? Trailers are notorious for blowing fuses. In gen 1 trucks the dashboard and rear lights share a fuse, I suspect that has not changed ...

Just fyi, my 1998 2.8TDI lwb NL has the factory body lift and a 40mm suspension lift, along with some minor work done to the front fenders. It easily fits the 33x12.50R15s it's currently running and would fit 35x12.50R15s. Not much lift is necessary at all to run 35s. Before I removed the mudguards ...

Perhaps you can tell us what you want to accomplish with the lift and how you plan on using the truck. That would make it easier to give good advice. Also whether it's a swb or a lwb. So, if the car currently has no suspension lift but you have run out of adjustment on the torsion bars, you can re ...

Your 2.8 already has 40mm body lift from the factory. They did this to fit the bigger transmission used for the 2.8 and the 3500 petrol. You should be able to fit 33x12.50s with just a 2" lift, although some modifications to the front mudguards may be necessary to stop tire rub when flexing under ...
