How strong are the 4-speed boxes?

I'm just wondering if it is worth bolting up an engine I have sitting in the shed... I know it will be a fair bit of mucking around getting it going as well. But, thats just part of the fun, plus it will be a unique Hilux. But it will produce around 170hp ATW @ 4000rpm, which is a fair bit of torque ...

You need to look at what extractors you get.

Just because you get them doesn't mean you will gain power. I have seen this time and time again on cars where people have got extractors and actually lost power...

But yea, I would think that more than 2" exhaust (mandrel bent) would be too much ...

Cut the hose, and replace that section with a piece of metal pipe. You can get most sizes from places like Bunnings. Maybe even the copper plumbing pipe?

Shock options...

Hey guys,

I have a RN36, and looking at getting a 1.5" lift. I just want a cheap option for the shocks. IE. From another vehicle? That I can hopefully get from a wreckers, or off one of you guys?

Thanks..

Ok, thanks... Keep the tips coming. I think the problem was that I was trying to lift one side off at a time. I'll grab another jack and get the whole front off the ground.

BTW... I did have the 12mm bolts off, thanks for the idea I had to take them off for the rears, so if I didn't do it for the ...

Whats the trick? Removing front springs.

Ok,

I'm getting all my springs reset tomorrow and I got the rears off fine. Now the front, what a pain in the arse

I've got all the nuts off and I can't get the bolts / shackles out of the damn thing. I'm guessing it is because I have to jack the ute up so that it takes the pressure off the ...

Hilux lift & do I need extended shocks?

Hey guys,

Just wondering if I get a 1.5" lift on the normal springs whether or not I need to worry about the shocks? BTW. I'm getting this done tomorrow, short notice I know :?

It is for a RN36 Hilux.

stock rear springs are a bit or a rare thing and a hot item as ppl like to put them in the front of thier trucks, try a wreckers in sure the 2wd model springs from the same era might fit

Ok, thanks I'll check the 2WD ones.

Just for the record, they don't have to be stock height. But the ...

I need a set of Hilux rear springs...

Hey guys,

Since my post seems to have drifted down a bit, I've done a bit more research (and made a more generic title, so people don't just see RN36 and skip it)

Anyway, I need a set of rear springs for my hilux, now the little research I have conducted on the Internet, due to everything ...

RN36 - Rear Springs

Hey guys,

My rear springs are pretty shagged from having a lot of concrete sitting in the tray for a few months. I don't have much money so I was wondering if anyone had an old set hanging around that they wanted to part with?

Or if anyone knows of any other vehicles that fit that I can get ...

Wouldn`t worry about spending money on a shit motor better of spending it on something with EFI,Pretty sure a Supra conversion is the thing for you

Ummm, isn't the 22RE EFI? I wouldn't touch a carby motor at all.

Supra?? But how much stuffing around are we talking about getting to fit up to ...

Hi... and '82 Hilux Q's.

Hey guys,

Thought I would just say hi. I've been given my fathers old work ute, and damn is it worse for wear! It's going to be taken off the road for about 6 months (at least) as I get the time to do it up as solely a 4WD vehicle for weekends etc.

Pretty much everything needs replacing, but I ...

I saw a guy on a bike hit a truck near the city a few months ago in Brisbane (and yes, he hit the truck, and he didn't come off best at all!)

Much more than 5% even with the 8V efi.... more like about 15%.

Better power, more fuel economy. Worth considering.

Also as the Carby starts off with lower compression than the EFI it's a great basis for turbocharging or supercharging.

What is the compression of the two engines?

I suppose ...
