Volvo are developing a headlight that makes driving in rain like drive on a clear night.
The light blocks the light where the raindrops are and it happens so quick that the human eye can't pick it up.
From the demo's I've seen, bloody impressive

Re: External reg, or alternator.

It's a diesel.
So I need the Vac pump.

Thought about fitting a elec vac pump or even a belt driven dedicated vac pump.....but thats another thread.

Got the Alt tested and it's stuffed.
$349 for a replacement 80amp unit, with new ext reg so all up, not as bad as it could have been.

External reg, or alternator.

The Alternator on my 60 is no longer working.
All connections and earths etc look good, but I don't know how to tell if it's the external reg or the Alt that's buggered.

So, can anyone give me a heads up on how to check both.
I've done a search and it's $300 for a 80Amp new replacement. So if it ...

locktup sell an ARP stud kit for them. That coupled with 10mm dowels is plenty strong. holds up to my 40" sticky tyres well

I'm all for this option. Already upgraded to the 10mm grade 12 cap head bolts and washers. But none of the after market axles come drilled to suit 10mm so I'm going to ...

I'll have a good look at the hex bolts when I next need to replace the axle studs.
The diff was rebuilt only a few months ago.
It's a 4.11 geared center with air locker.

I've only snapped the axle studs once off road, was using one rear wheel to get me out of a hole while all other three wheels had ...

The main reason I snap the studs is because I run a 6.5 Chev in it.
And I am not light on the loud pedal.
I perfer not to up grade to the 10mm studs as I can fix the studs easily on the side of the road with a cordless drill and easy outs. I always carry spare studs with me and I normally don't even ...

Cone washers

Guys,
My 60 has a bit of a habit of snapping the rear axle studs.
That in itself isn't really a huge problem, They are quite easy to replace.

The issue is that I buy the studs from the local bolt shop as they are high tensile. But I can't find anywhere that sells just the cone washer. The cheapest ...

I was hoping the whole front hub assembly ie everything that sits on the stub axle, would fit from the 80 onto the 60 series.
I didn't think the rear would fit, but I can get that one for only $15 so was hoping.

Guys,

Will a rear hub off a '93 80 series the same as the rear hub off the 60 series?

AND

Are the front hubs and locking hubs the same as the part time 80 series.

Yeah there is a supercharger kit available for these motors.

Just wire up a momentary switch on the dash that puts power to the glow plug rail via a relay.

How's your fuel economy looking?

You mean "fuel consumption". All that heat they have problems shedding, well that's all your expensive diesel not going to crank power.

My 60 uses about 14.5l/100km.
Thats with going from Brisbane eastern suburbs to the CBD each day during peak hour.

I have a 6.5 N/a in my 60.

I wouldn't spend the money to put it in if I was paying for the conversion.
Down low the thing is awesome. Off road she will idle up just about anything and is quite responsive.
One road, again, down low it's great. But get it about 80 and theres not much there. You'll ...

do a 1hdfte conversion. it will shit all over the chev diesel motors and be more reliable too.
and it'll look factory so it easier to service etc

I'd go with the above.

The 6.5l isn't a conversion I would do as the improvement isn't worth the cost ...
