Volvo are developing a headlight that makes driving in rain like drive on a clear night.
The light blocks the light where the raindrops are and it happens so quick that the human eye can't pick it up.
From the demo's I've seen, bloody impressive

Re: External reg, or alternator.
It's a diesel.
So I need the Vac pump.
Thought about fitting a elec vac pump or even a belt driven dedicated vac pump.....but thats another thread.
Got the Alt tested and it's stuffed.
$349 for a replacement 80amp unit, with new ext reg so all up, not as bad as it could have been.
Cheers

External reg, or alternator.
The Alternator on my 60 is no longer working.
All connections and earths etc look good, but I don't know how to tell if it's the external reg or the Alt that's buggered.
So, can anyone give me a heads up on how to check both.

locktup sell an ARP stud kit for them. That coupled with 10mm dowels is plenty strong. holds up to my 40" sticky tyres well

I'll have a good look at the hex bolts when I next need to replace the axle studs.

Guys,
My 60 has a bit of a habit of snapping the rear axle studs.
That in itself isn't really a huge problem, They are quite easy to replace.
The issue is that I buy the studs from the local bolt shop as they are high tensile. But I can't find anywhere that sells just the cone washer. The cheapest ...

I was hoping the whole front hub assembly ie everything that sits on the stub axle, would fit from the 80 onto the 60 series.
I didn't think the rear would fit, but I can get that one for only $15 so was hoping.
Cheers

Guys,
Will a rear hub off a '93 80 series the same as the rear hub off the 60 series?
AND
Are the front hubs and locking hubs the same as the part time 80 series.

Yeah there is a supercharger kit available for these motors.
Trying to fit a turbo in there is a super pain in the ass in most vehicles.
Banks do a kit, but it doesnt fit most aussie cars with these motors.
I can see it being easier than a turbo, but superchargers don't match diesels at all ...

Just wire up a momentary switch on the dash that puts power to the glow plug rail via a relay.
I did this to my Hilux when the relay on it died and I also have recently done this to my 60 with the 6.5 Chev.

How's your fuel economy looking?
You mean "fuel consumption". All that heat they have problems shedding, well that's all your expensive diesel not going to crank power.
My 60 uses about 14.5l/100km.
Thats with going from Brisbane eastern suburbs to the CBD each day during peak hour.

I have a 6.5 N/a in my 60.
I wouldn't spend the money to put it in if I was paying for the conversion.
Down low the thing is awesome. Off road she will idle up just about anything and is quite responsive.

do a 1hdfte conversion. it will shit all over the chev diesel motors and be more reliable too.
and it'll look factory so it easier to service etc
being the owner of a 60 with the 6.5l init.
I'd go with the above.
The 6.5l isn't a conversion I would do as the improvement isn't worth the cost ...

There are heaps of GU's going around with this conversion.
I'm currrently looking for either a GU or 100 series with stuffed running gear to swap out the 6.5 in my 60 into.
No rush, but when the right one comes along I'll get it.
But getting engineers approval was never something I thought about as ...

However, for the cost of buying the engine and fitting, there are better options out there I'm sure.
