3.0L Hilux - Adding Turbo

Thinking of whacking a turbo on my standard 3.0L diesel efi lux.

Just wanting to hear from anyone who has gone down that path and done the install themselves. Have you gone factory turbo (wrecker job) or the aftermarket kit? Are either a DYI possibility (i.e. standard mechanical tools) or are ...

2002 Toyota Hilux Workshop Manual

Wanting to find one of the above. Anyone know what they retail for from Factory? Are there aftermarket ones or something off the net? I know for my suzuki, there are links which have full PDF manuals.

2004 vs 2002 Flares

Question:

Is there any difference between the 2002 and 2004 hilux flares (ie fibreglass wheel flares)?

I have a set of 2004 flares (TJM) that I am looking at purchasing and would like to know if they fit.

Cheers,

Killalux you're dead right!!

Wired the stereo ground into the green wire for the dash circuit. It comes out of the loom below the acc and battery power cables so it really does look like the ground cable. If you test it on the multimeter it also shows up as ground (runs 12V when connected to power ...

Thanks for that,

Trying above to see if it helps.

Anyone have a definitive answer on the colours and what they mean? A wiring diagram would help also.

HELP!!! Changed stereo, now no light to guages???

Hi all,

Changed the standard stereo in my 2002 hilux (cassette only) and wired up as required on my new stereo. Since I didn't have the wiring diagram, I tested the pairs of cables on the lux wiring harness by connecting to speaker on my deck. Eventually I figured out the fronts and wired in.

Now ...

threads been put into the bible under cheap shock options ;)

I think if you have added 2 inch or over the Hiace shocks (check the thread for part number) would work well for you in the rear. Ride is a bit stiffer on road but they do quite a good job off.

Slipping Clutch

My zook is the first car I have owned, and I have not changed the clutch, so excuse me for my ignorance on this topic :D

What does a slipping clutch feel like? I worked the clutch pretty hard on some steep inclines over the last couple, and on acceleration (once I get some warmth into the car) in ...

Mine's definately on the way to a weld. I got the living S***E scared out of me coming up a steep ridge with my gear in the back on 3 wheels, looking down the face and thinking "F**K I hope we don't end up down there!!!"

Driving the line just doesn't cut it sometimes I reckon. Hopefully I ...

Hi GQ,

Yeah I saw that link in the bible but the pictures are missing, and for the life of me I can't make out what they are talking about. It seems the most important pics are the ones that are gone :x :x

Welding Diffs

Just come back from a trip out west and saw some pretty nasty tracks (was on the verge of rolling a couple of times  ).

Couple of mods I decided I need are a rear diff lock and possibly some gearing in the future (transfer) ++ tyres.

Was reading up on the welded diff (ie searched ...

Testing the new Hiace/VS commodore shocks and EFS springs today, went out onto some loose dirt, ran around a bit in 4H, stopped, rolled and changed (while rolling). Bang not as bad but still was loud enough to draw a "F**K what was that?" from my mate in the ...

Drop Shackles - Advice

Thinking of making up some drop shackles for my zook, something just to stuff around with and possibly actually install in future  .

Yeah apparently so, but I have never been able to do it, ever since I bought the car. It hasn't been thrashed and the oil kept up so I wouldn't think it would be hammered, but then again who knows.

I will try that now Lay80n, thanks for the advice.

Ooooh yes, those rods that people bracket to the top of the diff. I always wondered what they were for! Is that to stop forward and backward movement of the diff? Backward movement would be bad (stress shafts etc)?

ooooh yeah, panhard rod ( :finger: ) seems pretty essential when you're sitting so high over the axles :D The car goes without it though, but it's necc. all the same, unless you're building a ricer for looks and never actually laterally loading your rig offroad. ;)

The driveline angle is probably the reason you would want to get the standard type perches. I imagine that changing the angle on the rear diff would be as simple as offsetting the perches forward a couple degrees (i.e. rotating the axle back)? If you made your own perches (same style as the rocky ...
