do let me know what sort of alt. you were able to track down for such a good price - I took a look around and couldn't find an expensive one, far less one I'd be happy to buy. $500 sounds pretty good - less than $500 sounds better! No word back on the $100 used one - anybody know contact info for ...

I took the rig into Opposite Lock in Alexandria and story is that the alt. is the issue. Mine is the one with the vac. so Gordon said it would run me close to $1000 for a new one (and that rebuilding is much cheaper!) Not sure how much the re-build will run.... I hear tomorrow. Got a working one for ...

BJ42 Alternator OR is it?

I think I either need a new alternator or new battery (maybe both) for my BJ42. Anybody recomend a battery that can take my short driving pattern and suit the demands of a diesel at start-up?

If it is my alternator - anybody know the # of the stock one or recomend a better to replace it with?

How to prevent another theft!!

Some SOB stole my passenger's side mirror (actually, the person unscrewed the door bracket, and removed the arm, mirror, all the bolts) I'm going to need to buy a new "unit" and probably a pair, but if I were a smart chap into the art of aquisition - I'd steal a piece of junk in hopes it gets ...

am I chattin with a fellow canuck? I'll have to take a look around for a rear diff to swap out with mine then. Sounds like I should have plenty of options. my rig is a 1982 BJ42 - it is bone stock as far as I can tell (so the gear it came with, save teh 33" tyres) Interesting idea about the front to back swap, but natrually I'd like two tough diffs. not sure about the spines nor about much else (i'm basically useless) Let me know what to look for and I ...

As far as I was told it, there is a bearing in need of a repacment (this from the Diff guy who offerd a solution for $800 - after I spent $700 on the front that had an effective fix, yet questionable diagnosis) Simon (on here) offered to put up his diff for parts (since he has plans to make his into ...

40 Series Detroit Locker for $1500?

My rear diff is about to give up the ghost - rather than the old stock one being fixed, I thought an upgrade would be in order. $1500 seems like a lot for the rear diff (when the fix of the old one will run me about $500) Does this seem right and do I have a viable alternative that won't cost me ...

RUST - I've got it and don't want it.

I was cleaning my 81 BJ42 and pulled up the grey floor vinyl and looked at the rubber type coating on the foot well on the dirver's side. I pulled up a bit of the rubber stuff by the area where the floor and the bottom of the door meet. RUST - not a lot, but certianly a few holes. I checked the ...

S-mon, I need half doors, a roll bar and I'll nick your rear diff for the bearing... want to go half/half on a junker and get all the basics we both need?

Probably won't help much with the Niss diff question - but might get your wreck back onto the road so we can find some trouble!
