RUST - I've got it and don't want it.

I was cleaning my 81 BJ42 and pulled up the grey floor vinyl and looked at the rubber type coating on the foot well on the dirver's side.

I pulled up a bit of the rubber stuff by the area where the floor and the bottom of the door meet. RUST - not a lot, but certianly a few holes. I checked the other side and same goes.

If there is enough good metal around, how hard would it be to cut this out and patch it up? Suggestions - anyone done this? Anyone know a good place to get some basic welding and grinding done?

It is easy enough to cut out a section and replace it with some 1.6mm or 2mm sheet. I have done the floor in my lux. Had some nice size holes in it. Cut out floor around rust, and used it as a template to cut out new steel. Mig'd it in place, painted and jobs done. If you need it bent, use a vice and hammer or take the cut out and new steel to an engineering shop and they should be able to fold it for you.

I've got myself an angle grinder now, but i think it is the welding part that is going to cause me the issue - I might just get the bits sorted out and have someone put them in for me.

I'd guess that a new floor would be some serious over-kill...

You could always just sicaflex a patch on to it , Paint over/ bog and call it a day.

Of if only smallish holes buy some metal body filler put that in and paint.

I'll start to cut and if I don't make too much of a mess then bondo it is!!

I figure that there isn't much rust (that I can see) and Gordon from Opposite Lock told me that just pick a spot and fix that... if you go and find more, you'll end up with a full blown nightmare on your hands!
