Old man has a 03 GXL landcruiser with the factory alloy bar, and we are trying to fit a X9 superwinch to it.
We have been to both hinterland toyota and grand motors toyota on the coast and both are telling us that the winch mounts directly to the face of the alloy bar, and that there is no winch cradle for the bar.
I cannot believe that a 9000lb winch can be mounted directly to an alloy bar. The hilux we took the winch off (2000 SR5, dads old car) had a folded metal winch cradle which bolted to the chassis behind the alloy bar.
Weve been to TJM and they have said that they have a winch cradle kit for thier bars, but it does not fit the toyota alloy bar.
Has anyone got a winch mounted to a factory alloy bar? I believe there are 3 different alloy bars, dad has the square edge one, not the curved face one.
Would be great to get some photos of your setup.

Fitting a winch to a 100 series with Factory Alloy Bar

the only way you can do it is if you get a custom winch cradle made up but by the the time you have finished it would be cheaper if you sold your bar and bought a winch bar

I find it very hard to believe that they are selling a winch bar that you cant mount a winch to without fabricating a bracket yourself, but it is starting to look like this is exactly the case.
I think the guys in these parts departments just really have no idea how to mount a winch to a 100 series.
One of the guys was trying to tell us that a winch for a hilux is different to a winch for a 100 series, different bolt holes etc.
