1.6 efi , surging

Post by benjamin78au »

hey all just curious any one had issues with a 1.6 efi surging, eg try and hold it at 3000 rpm, and it will drop back to 2000 - 2500 then surge up to 3000 then back again.

checked and cleaned dissy cap, and that, wasnt too bad, Problem still exists. Going to check sparks, this afternoon . Cleaned the air filter today , same problem, Checked the fuel pump and if i take a hose off the engine side, turn accesories on you can hear the fuel pump and it then sprays fuel in to bucket. at motor height, it comes out, like a running hose about 1/4 turned on so it a solid stream , not huge pressure tho.

Some times it sounds rought as like a motor bike, other times it is fine.

Ideas?

Bazzoked, is there a reson why you suggest, fuel filters? lack of pressure, would that cause problem.

If a fuel filter is blocked in can cause a disruption in the fuel delivery creating a surge. Particularly if its only partially blocked.

Had this for ages in my 4age.

Check all your vacuum lines on and around the throttle body. Also make sure your TPS is correctly adjusted as mine turned out to be faulty. If you unplug the tps your ecu will go into "limp home" mode but the engine will still function. Give it a few revs with the TPS disconnected and see if the problem still exists.

Also check the TB to inlet gasket.

Surging EFI

If you have replaced your filters and are still having trouble it's probably your fuel pump. Hook up a fuel pressure gauge and see whats going on.

It may also be worthwhile pulling the vacuum hose off the fuel pressure regulator with the car running. If fuel comes pissing out you know its stuffed.
