V8

Post by fordy1 »

I went to a wreckers in NZ and they raced a V8 Lexus in a Vitara 2 door on massive tyres .

I say go for it!! anytime u can stick it to a lux driver is good, imagine the look on a lux driver with a big lift and tyres and the im so tuff look being passed by a vitara towing a boat!! :D

I say Vitara's will take over!!

a front heavy SWB vehicle towing a boat .. Not the brightest idea I have ever heard.

To tow properly you need more than just the horses to pull it .. you need the weight to control it.

For a dedicated off roader great have a ball .. but minimise its time spent mingling with the general public.

In my limited (non-existent) understanding of towing, wouldnt extra weight over the front be a good thing?

So when the trailer goes on its putting weight over the rear, which, when added to the extra front end weight, balances the vehicle better?

Im not saying this is how it is, Im just curious.....

No it would be very bad, a properly set up trailer should have under a hundred kilo's on the ball (depending on total weight of the trailer), the rest should be balanced on the trailer (there are a few exceptions to this, utes being one),
this is especially so with a light towing vehicle and even more so with a short wheel base.
You want the car telling the trailer where to go, not the other way around.

if you were towing a 2500KG boat behind a 1000KG Sierra, things could get very ugly, very quick,
if, on the other hand you were towing a 2500KG boat behind a 2684KG F250 with a gcm of 7369KG you would a high level of confidence.
if however you had an International CXT that tips the scales at a sniff under 12,000 KG you may forget the boat was even there

You pick.

have you thought about this o0ld 253 vs newer v6 have to be the same power out put. v6 is smaller to start with . i am doing a v6 conversion atm was gooing to go toy v8 for the weight reason but the motor is just huge with the twin cam heads 700*700mm box round about plus the weight differnce isnt much different anyway and with a v6 most of the weight is behind the front diff well in my case any way
