Rover 3.5 engine

Howdy, scuse me for intruding into the rover section.

I will soon have my hands on a rover 3.5 engine that has (I'm told) been stroked to 4.2 litres. It was originally from a 1982 Range Rover before it was rebuilt.

It's still carburetted. I don't know if it still has 3.5 heads, valves, or what. It did seem to pull better than another 3.5 rover motor I've driven, but I've only driven those two :)

Just wondering, purely for speculation because I'm not going to do anything to it for a while, what are some of the common things that could be done to improve this motor further. Would injection from a disco bolt on? Stuff like that. Any bolt-on turbo option?

ps can you get sexier looking rocker covers for 'em?

Also if anyone can tell me whether I should just grab the haynes manual for an 82 rangie... or what other manual instead... to get myself up to date on any maintenance items and so on.

The rocker covers are alloy so you can get them polished. What more could you want. in UK you can get adaptors to fit Ford rockers so they can say"Cobra"

late (after 72?)3.5 heads are functionally the same as 3.9 and 4.6.
The motor has relatively late rocker covers so it may be a post say 1984 motor.

Disco 3.5 3.9 injection manifolds bolt on.

All rover V8s are backwards compatible so any bolt on up to the Thor manifolds will bolt on. You could bolt all of the stuff on your engine onto a 4.6.
I cannot see the exhaust manifolds but the later injection manifolds are a cheap upgrade. they have 2 pipes each side back to the gearbox area

agree with last post - looks like a later mod motor, just pre injection perhaps. Being stroked it should pull like a train. Injection would help with fuel economy, and can be easily done if you have some know-how. Parts are everywhere, including injection etc. So go for it!!

PS wish I had that motor - a colleague had one and he tried and tried to destroy it, but failed....
