Camper Trailers / Bodys
Hi all
Just after some input as I am thinking of building a camper trailer to tow behind the GQ.
I have a Excel body ( the ones like the telstra utes ) and was thinking of putting a roof top camper on the top of it and use the boxs as storage / kitchen.
One concern i have is the weight, What is the unloaded weight of most campers ? Am I better of just starting from scratch and build a complete trailer ?
Has anyone got photos of there campers that have been home made or custom built ?
Any help or photos would be appreciated.
Cheers Nick

I have a Cooks body also off a Telstra ute. I bought it already mounted to a trailer although the trailer isn't heavy duty at all. I am planning on having a heavy duty off road trailer frame made for it. It will have 60 series Landcruiser springs and shocks. I plan to use a large canvas touring tent along with a roof top tent. One side will be a kitchen, the other storage and more staorage at the rear. It will also have a gas hot water heater built into it.

No I had it all buit at Casuarina Campers as they were happy to build it to my requirements. It is 7ft X 5 ft with a long drawbar.Loanrangie wrote:Jonesy, did you build the trailer ? what size is it ? looking at doing something similar as in building a trailer and getting a camper top for it.

When i had my Rangie i built a trailer for it & used a slide on camper on it. I made the trailer out of a Rangie chassis which i cut in half & welded a draw bar onto, i pulled the diff & half shafts out of the axle housing, plumbed up the fuel tank & disc brakes & mounted an ali tray on it. Sorry i cant do the pic thing.
