I've been looking for used vehicles around the 20 - 25k mark and places like cousins www.cousins.com.au/ and east coast commercials www.eastcoastcommercials.com.au/ have diesel GU patrol coil cabs in that price range.... that's the vehicle I really want
Anyone got advice or experience good or bad with these kinds ex commercial of yards
Most of them seem to be ex gov. and as a result haven't seen the beach which is good. There's a few with really good k's for a 4.2D or TD. I'm wary of some that have service bodies and BIG mofo winches, I reckon they might have had hard lives.
Personally i wouldn't buy another one...... my first 4wd was an ex council Ford Courier dual cab 4wd with 12 000kms and was plagued with problems, i sold it near 50 000kms on it
1998 Toyota Landcruiser 100 series GXL
1976 FJ45 Landcruiser ute
I think that ex Government auctions can be a bit hit and miss, but I've bought from Govt. Auction twice and had two hits. I have an ex Telstra Mitsubishi Express van and an ex Spotless Falcon BA ute. Both vehicles are great. I also have an ex Telstra Hiace Van that I bought from a car yard. There is the arguement that the vehciles may have been treated like dirt, but then again they would have had regular servicing as well. Have you thought about buying from auction yourself? Would save you a few grand at least. We have Pickles and Fowles here. For $10 I can buy 'What People Paid' from Pickles and it has the prices of all vehicles sold in the last month. Gives you a good guide as to what the car yards are paying for these vehicles.
AKA Mark.

I've recently bought a cruiser through Cousins in Brizzy and found them to be very good. Had the car a couple of months now and have no complaints, still happy with it and would go back next time. Also get 3 month stat warentee through Cousins that you don't get through the auctions.
If you can get all the cash together they get them through the Q Fleet gov auctions at Pineapple St in Zillmere (all the listings are on the web). Some finance companies like esanda will also let you finance and buy through action.
actually you DO get the stat warranty through QFLEET sales, but not many other auctions i used to buy vehicles fom auction and you allow to spend a little on them and they are usually a lot cheaper than yards but not always .
As others have said, go the auction route if ya can get the cash.
In sydney anyway, the auctions often have a portion of their vehicles with window sale price, so you dont have to bid if that puts you off, you just drop in & can buy on the spot.
The window price is normally slightly more than they go at auction from my experience, but still cheaper than yard's specializing in ex govt or fleet vehicles.
In the past 9 years the small company that I work for have bought the majority of their cars thru Fowles or Pickles auctions. In that time we would have had 2 x Hilux's, 1 x Triton, 2 x Hiace's & 3 AU Falcons that where ex govt. We did not ever have any problems.
My old house mate had a GU Ute ex govt and never had any probs either.
Not sure if that helps at all, just my experience......
this all helps thanks I've been through auctions before but they were dealer ones where my brothers mate could buy for me. That was fine for commodores and falcons but never really saw any 4bys.
I think I'll head to the Govt. auctions for a look this weekend
If your looking at auction just make sure you dont end up with a mine vechile.
They get the crap thrashed out of them and there servicing is never up to scratch.
I know two guys from out west in NSW who buy the ex mine vechiles straight from NSW mines, tidy them up a bit and send them off to Vic or Qld for sale.
Just a word of warning.
